Category 1 – Application for Emerging Tax
Star Award
1. Open to members and non-members of The Tax Institute.
2. Education – must have at a minimum completed The Tax Institute’s CTA1 Foundations
course or an equivalent (an undergraduate subject in tax), and must provide proof of
qualifications.
3. Must have no more than five years’ relevant tax experience (by close of application),
and must include your CV as proof of relevant tax experience.
4. Must be able to demonstrate high levels of commitment to tax technical excellence
through the provision of advice, work or studies (such as work completed where you
used broad policy, tax principles, your understanding of the industry of your clients etc).
5. Must be able to demonstrate initiative in your approach to the tax profession (such as
supporting graduate recruitment and in-house tax training, attending networking events,
promoting the interests of the firm etc).
6. Must be able to demonstrate active commitment to supporting and developing the
profession and the tax community (such as participating in tax discussion groups,
attending/presenting at Institute or other relevant association events, supporting
colleagues, writing papers in industry journals, representing a professional group etc).
7. Must be able to demonstrate commitment to professionalism and high ethical standards.

4. Tax technical excellence (attach supporting documentation/confirmation from employer/practitioner)
Demonstrate high levels of commitment to tax technical excellence through the provision of
advice, work or studies, such as work completed where you used broad policy, tax
principles, your understanding of the industry of your clients etc, and attach proof, for
example, a letter from an employer/practitioner.

Provide examples of how you have demonstrated initiative in your approach to the tax profession,

Category 2 – Application for Tax Adviser of
the Year Award
1. Must be a current member of The Tax Institute (any level).
2. Must satisfy one of the following criteria:
a) Education – must have at a minimum completed The Tax Institute’s CTA2
Advanced course or an equivalent (a postgraduate subject in tax or the ICAA’s
Taxation Module) , and must provide proof of qualifications; or
b) Experience – must have a minimum of eight years’ tax experience in the last 10
years, and must provide proof of experience.
3. Must have more than five years’ relevant tax experience (by close of application), and
must include your CV as proof of relevant tax experience.
4. Must be able to demonstrate excellence in tax (such as proactively considering and
resolving stakeholder concerns including, but not limited to, clients, boards of directors,
CFOs, the ATO etc).
5. Must be able to demonstrate active commitment to supporting and developing the
profession and the tax community (such as participating in tax discussion groups,
attending/presenting at Institute or other relevant association events, supporting
colleagues, writing papers in industry journals, representing a professional group etc).
6. Must be able to demonstrate commitment to professionalism and high ethical standards.

Category 3 – Application for Chartered Tax
Adviser of the Year Award
1. Must be a current member of The Tax Institute (Australian Chartered Tax Advisers only).
2. Must have more than 10 years’ relevant tax experience (by close of application), and
must include your CV as proof of relevant tax experience.
3. Must hold a leadership position in the tax industry (such as senior manager, partner etc)
and provide evidence of being a leader in your field (such as publishing books or papers,
delivering lectures etc).
4. Must have an impressive record of achievement, including thought leadership in
specialist area (such as presenting papers and sharing your knowledge among peers,
being involved in advocacy activities etc).
5. Must be able to demonstrate active commitment to supporting and developing the
profession and the tax community (such as participating in tax discussion groups,
attending/presenting at Institute or other relevant association events, supporting
colleagues, writing papers in industry journals, representing a professional group etc).
6. Must be able to demonstrate commitment to professionalism and high ethical standards.
