Welcome to Club Volleyball!
Welcome to USA volleyball in the Puget Sound Region. Thank you for your interest in the sport
of Volleyball. Our clubs and our region want all of our sporting events to be enjoyable for
everyone in attendance.
Good sportsmanship is the attitude and behavior that exemplifies positive support for all
individuals who participate in our events whether they are parents, officials or the athletes.
Participants in USA Volleyball are expected to demonstrate respect and good sportsmanship
for others.
We are asking that every participant of club and regional volleyball do their part to promote
the ideals of sportsmanship so that our events are enjoyable to everyone and the ideals of
sportsmanship and good citizenship are an integral part of all our programs.

Sportsmanship Expectations for Volleyball Parents and Spectators
There is a tremendous amount of pleasure and excitement that comes from watching your children compete in club
athletic events. Nearly all kids are bolstered by having their parents attending a volleyball match and cheering them
on. It is critical that all parents not only set a role model at sporting events – but also help to encourage sportsmanlike
behavior when they see inappropriate actions.
By setting a good example and encouraging others to do the same, tense situations will be alleviated and a better time
will be had by all.
Each Spectator is expected to:
1. Remember that he/she is at a contest to support and cheer for the team and to enjoy the skill of the competition; not to intimidate or ridicule the other team or its fans.
2. Mistakes are sometimes made. Athletes should be praised in their attempt to improve themselves as athletes
and as people.
3. Learn the rules of the game, so that he/she can understand and appreciate why certain situations take place.
4. Show respect for opposing players, coaches, spectators, and support groups. Treat them as one would treat a
guest in his/her own home.
5. Refrain from taunting or making any kind of derogatory remarks to the opponents during the game, especially
comments of an ethnic, racial or sexual nature.
6. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Understand that they are doing their best to help promote the athlete and admire their willingness to participate in full view of the public.
7. Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.
8. Refrain from the use of any controlled substance (alcohol, tobacco or drugs) before and during the game, and
afterward on or near the site of the event.
9. Use only those cheers that support and uplift the teams involved.
10. Recognize and compliment the efforts of club and region administrators in emphasizing the role of good
sportsmanship.
11. Be a positive behavior role model by censuring those whose behavior is unbecoming.
12. Be a teacher to your child and focus on them as an individual.
Any form of unacceptable behavior by an athlete may result in suspension from the game. Unacceptable behavior
by a spectator may result in removal from the event site and in denial of admission to future region athletic events
or the referral to local authorities.
