Forest School – Year 6 Leavers Treat
On Monday the 29th June, Year 6 went to Forest School for most of the day.
“We had an amazing time at Forest School, at the start of our outdoor trip we made willow and wire
butterflies in memory of Lydia. Then we played an amazing game called mini tracking, which was where
two people went and lay a path of sticks for the other two to follow, and at the end of the stick trail there
would be two packets of sweets which the other two people would eat (once they found them).
Shortly after, we went exploring the overgrown woods and we found a small baby black bird lying in the
path. We initially thought that it had broken its leg but after going to the forest school shelter and back we
found that it wandered up the path and was learning to fly.
Once we were all back at the shelter we played a game where there was a line and sweets passed the line.
The aim of the game was to get the sweets without touching the ground in front of the line, but the people
who already got their sweets were allowed to stand on the ground passed the line. After that game we had
some delicious hot dogs cooked over the fire and some biscuits, some (a lot of) marshmallows and some
hot chocolate. Our final game was creating a free standing structure made of sticks and string, whoever
had the tallest structure won.”
Thank you to Mrs Hayward and Mrs Halstead for taking us up to Forest School and for giving us such an
amazing time. Thank you also to Mrs Callow who has helped with Forest School throughout the year.
Monday Superstars sessions for Chestnuts and Conkers
The additional morning sessions will continue until Monday 18th July.
Move Up Days
We enjoyed welcoming our new Reception children to Acorns class on Wednesday and Thursday
mornings. They stayed for lunch and mixed in well with the other children. It was also nice for the children
moving into new classrooms to get a feel of their new surroundings. Unfortunately our whole school picnic
had to be in school yesterday as yet again, the weather let us down.
School Production – “Alice in Wonderland”
Year 2 – Year 6 children will be performing ‘Alice in Wonderland’ on Wednesday 6th July in the Village Hall
at 2.00pm and 7.00pm. All Chestnuts and Conkers children need to be back at school at 6.30pm (not
before) in their costumes. Costumes will be taken home on that afternoon. Parents of children in Years
Reception and 1 are most welcome to come and watch the performances. We do not charge for watching
the performances, instead we ask that you donate to the retiring collection at the end of both performances
which will be divided between Children’s Hospice South West in memory of Riley and for CLIC Sargent in
memory of Lydia.
Croscombe Fun Day and Village Show
Just a reminder that Croscombe Fun Day and Village Show will be held on Saturday 9th July from
11.30am to 4.30pm at the Village Hall and school field. FOCS will have a stall selling cakes and ice
creams as well as face painting and “hook-a-duck”.
Can you help on the day? If so, please sign up using the sheet on the main door. If you can provide cakes
or donate filled jam jars, please send them into school on Friday 8th July. Any help is much appreciated.
Also, a reminder to please complete entry forms for the Village Show. The categories this year for the
children are as follows:
Children Prizes to be awarded Up to 7 Years and 8 to 12 Years
Class 43 Model from recycled materials
Class 44 Painting or drawing of Croscombe
This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to get creative and make something. Entry to the children’s
classes is free. The full schedule and entry form will be emailed to you with this letter, but paper copies are
available from the school office. If children wish to enter an adults class, they can do so, but must pay a
30p entry fee.
Entry forms should be completed and returned to school by Wednesday 6th July (if you miss the deadline,
they should be delivered to the collecting box at Croscombe Village Stores by 12 noon latest on Thursday
7th July). Competition entries can then be brought to school by Friday 8th July and Mrs Carroll has very
kindly agreed to take them up to the hall. If you would prefer to deliver your own entry, it must be taken up
to the Village Hall on Saturday 9th July between 9-10am.
