Stump Up for
Turn your club hot pink for a day and help support the McGrath Foundation
raise funds to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across
Australia and increase breast awareness in young Australian women.
*Except in WA when play will need to take place on 12 February 2011.
And then there was Pink...
In January 2009, the McGrath Foundation and
Cricket Australia took the opportunity provided
by the Sydney Test and the Sydney Cricket
Ground to create something truly unique –
not only in this country but internationally.
In that year, the first ever Pink Test was held and
people from across the country joined forces to
help raise funds to support the ongoing work
of the Foundation. This work includes funding
McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities
right across Australia, as well as educating
young women to be breast aware. In the
two years since the first Pink Test, the activity
during summer across the country has helped
raise over $910,000 and has enabled the
Foundation to increase the number of McGrath
Breast Care Nurses from 44 to 61, with new
positions being created at a rate of one per
month over the last twelve months.
This initiative is set to reach even further this
summer, as we invite clubs just like yours to
become a part of the Pink Test phenomenon.
In doing so, not only will you have a great
community day but you’ll also be helping
support families in your area who are
experiencing breast cancer.
It’s not a difficult process and the team at the
McGrath Foundation will be with you to help
every step of the way – so jump on board
and you’ll receive your Pink Stumps Day Team
Kit. Plus, you’ll also enter the draw to have
a legendary Australian cricketer, the likes of
Glenn McGrath or Adam Gilchrist, come
to your Pink Stumps Day!
The club that raises the most money will also
win a cricket bat signed by the Australian
team, courtesy of Cricket Australia!
19 February 2011* is set to prove to the world that
with community cricket leading the pink charge,
TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
*Except in WA when play will need to take place on 12 February 2011.
How to get involved
in Pink Stumps Day
You can make your Pink Stumps Day as big and as
hot pink as you like. Here are some tips on how to
plan your event and get the most out of the day:
Mark 19 February* in your calendar
It’s a Saturday, so it will be easy to incorporate
Pink Stumps Day into an existing play day! This
is also the day when some lucky clubs across
Australia will receive a visit from one of our
Australian cricketing legends, the likes of Glenn
McGrath or Adam Gilchrist.
Use fundraising ideas with a difference
Everyone loves a family day out, and raising
money for the McGrath Foundation is a great
reason for everyone to get involved. There are
so many ways to raise money, such as:
• A gold coin donation sausage sizzle
• A pink food stall (think pink-iced cupcakes,
pink lady apples and fairy floss)
• Face painting and other kids activities, such
as cookie decorating or a jumping castle
• A car wash for those who park around the field
• Requesting donation pledges from club sponsors
or local businesses for every run, boundary,
wicket or catch on the day
• Ensuring supporter signage around your ground
turns pink on the day
• Gold coin ‘fines’ for those not wearing pink
• Volunteers roaming with collection tins for donations
Invite your guests
The more, the merrier! Use the posters in the event
kit to promote your Pink Stumps Day around your
local community.
Get local media involved
Make a friendly phone call to your local newspaper
and radio station and ask if they can help to promote
your Pink Stumps Day activities. Don’t forget to invite
them to come along on the day.
Make a checklist
Count down to the event, making sure your players
are decked out in pink, your volunteers know their
positions and your guests are excited to get their
pink on!
*Except in WA when play will need to take place on 12 February 2011.

“The Pink Stumps Day
is something I am really
excited about and looking
forward to because we just
see so much potential in it.
With support like this
from local clubs and their
communities, we have
an amazing opportunity
to really “hit a six” and
continue to grow the
number of our McGrath
Breast Care Nurses
nationally. As always we
believe that together, we
can make a difference.”
Glenn McGrath AM,
Chairman and Co-Founder,
McGrath Foundation
“I urge cricket fans across
the country to think pink
and make a contribution to
the work of the McGrath
Foundation by getting
involved in the inaugural
Pink Stumps Day.
This is one simple way
cricket fans can help
strengthen the friendship
between Cricket Australia
and the McGrath
Foundation and extend
the support for Australian
families experiencing
breast cancer.”
James Sutherland,
CEO,
Cricket Australia
“From diagnosis and
meeting as virtual
strangers, my McGrath
Breast Care Nurse has
appeared on every page
of my story since, more
often standing out, keeping
me and my family together
- in more ways than one.”
Fiona Evans with her McGrath
Breast Care Nurse, Jenny Treloar
