The Company
Minibugs exciting new ventures include the opening of Minibugs Liskeard. A brand new
nursery situated in the grounds of Liskeard Hillfort Primary School, this post will commence in
August 2016.
Bringing together the right team for a day nursery is essential and we work hard to recruit and

Job Summary
The initial stages of this role will be to assist the Nursery Manager in the setup of the nursery,
ready to open for September 2016. After this the role of Deputy Manager will be to work
alongside the Nursery Manager in achieving outstanding childcare, and offering a service that
meets OfSTED and EYFS standards.
Main Duties and Key Responsibilities
Operations



To lead the planning of safe, creative and appropriate opportunities according to children’s
needs and interests to fulfil the requirements of the EYFS.
To promote positive values, attitudes and good child behaviour, dealing promptly with
conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging children to take
responsibility for their own behaviour
To actively promote the pre-school to ensure that vacant places are filled, and that
services are marketed and advertised so that the pre-school runs to full capacity.





To ensure a high quality service is consistently maintained in all areas and aspects of the
service and an inclusive environment is developed for all children, regardless of race,
abilities, beliefs and values.
To lead with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment, and use of
general and specialist play equipment and other resources, ensuring that they are clean,
safe and secure.
To be involved fully in monthly staff meetings, planning meetings, parents’ evenings,
fundraising events and training sessions outside working hours, as required.
To assist the manager in showing parents around the nursery facilities and sending out
information.
To be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both
within work and outside.
Staff Management/ Development






To deputise for the manager in their absence.
To lead the team and support in planning, ensuring that the EYFS is fully implemented and
a consistent approach is followed, and looking at reflective practice.
To maintain staff awareness of the statutory requirements of the EYFS to ensure a safe
working environment for staff and children.
To assist with the planning and organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rotas to
ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained in accordance with Ofsted and nursery
procedures.
To attend relevant training/conferences/meetings to support professional development,
keeping up to date with childcare/education practice and cascading to staff team.
To be motivated and able to motivate children and the team.
Monitoring

To be responsible for implementing and monitoring systems of observation to enable
children’s progress and achievements to be regularly and effectively assessed and
recorded.
Health & Safety


To carry out risk assessments on a regular basis.
To be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young
children and ensure staff compliance and awareness.
Safeguarding



Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and report any child protection or staffing
issues to the Nursery manager, Lead Director and relevant safeguarding bodies
Act as the Deputy Safeguarding lead for the nursery provision.
To follow safer recruitment processes when supporting the Nursery Manager with new
appointments.
Admin


To assist with the implementation of administrative procedures involved with: registration,
place allocation, and other related matters.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be
determined from time to time by the nursery manager.
Key Skill/Experience Requirements
Essential Criteria











Minimum of a recognised and relevant Level 3 qualification in Early Years.
A minimum of GCSE grade C in Maths and English.
A minimum of 3 years, proven experience of working within a childcare setting, ideally
with leadership responsibility.
Experience of implementing the EYFS.
A good working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection issues.
Organisational skills with the ability to work to targets and deadlines.
Proven ability to make key decisions independently.
Ability to set, demonstrate and promote good practice in line with the ethos of the nursery,
both indoors and outdoors.
Understanding and experience of key operational policies and procedures e.g. health &
safety, child protection, behaviour management and administering of medication.
Ability to effectively use ICT and technology to support learning e.g. video, photocopier,
etc. or to undertake training to do so.
Flexibility with regard to working hours to meet the needs of the setting.
Desirable Criteria




Qualified Early Years Professional (EYP or EYT) or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for
Early Years Foundation Stage.
BASIC Food Hygiene Certificate.
Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
Completion of Safeguarding Awareness course (Group 2) within last 3 years – (where not
holding Safeguarding Designated Officer role.)
All qualification certificates will need to be provided at the first interview stage
