Guide for Authors Contributions to Scienze regionali. The Italian Journal of Regional Science must report original research and will be subject to a doubleblind peer review process. Contributions published in English must comply with international linguistic standards; if not, they will be returned to the author. All submissions must be made electronically. Submitted manuscripts must be prepared according to the following style rules. General guidelines The first page of each contribution must include: a title in English; a short title (up to 60 characters) to be used on all pages after the first one. an abstract of approximately 100 words in English; up to three JEL classification codes; up to three keywords; a footnote next to the author’s name, for each author, which must include the author’s affiliation, his or her mailing and e-mail addresses, and information about the corresponding author. Full articles published in Scienze regionali must not exceed 8,000 words. This number includes reference lists, figures, and tables. Contributions to notes and debates must not exceed 3,000 words, and must contain references that use the same standard as the articles. They may include figures, graphs, and tables. Articles may be submitted in docx, doc, or rtf format. We offer submitting authors the option of using this file as templates. The styles to be adopted when formatting text are reported at the end of this document. Authors who choose not to use templates are required to use the following format: 1.5 line spacing, and 12-point Times New Roman or Times font. Footnotes must be marked clearly in the text at a punctuation mark, and listed at the bottom of each relevant page. They should not be listed consecutively at the end of the paper. The use of notes in general must be kept to a minimum. The format for footnotes must be single line spacing, and 9-point Times New Roman or Times font. Graphs and tables All graphs, tables, and figures must be supplied in separate files, and not included within the text; their intended position must be clearly indicated in the manuscript. Graphs, tables, and figures must have a title and be numbered (e.g. Table 1 – Title of the table; Figure 1 – Title of the figure), and they must be supplied in their original format (e.g. Word or Excel). Times New Roman or Times must be used for the text in tables and figures. The dimensions of graphs must be: medium, 10 cm wide x 5cm long (recommended); small, 5 x 5 cm square; or large, 12 x 8 cm rectangular Mathematical equations Mathematical equations must follow standard conventions. Equations must be typed on separate lines and numbered consecutively at the right margin, using Arabic numbers in square parentheses. In particular, mathematical symbols and formulae must be in italics in equations, text, and tables. Examples follow: log yt yt 1 c0 c1,t b log yt 1 ut f xt s f xt s | xt f xt dx - t , s M t s M t M s fˆ xt , xt s fˆ xt s | xt fˆ xt CI c* maxWcq Q I wcq q 1 cq [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] Greek letters must be in italics (e.g. α, β) in the text. References For citations in the text, the author’s last name(s) only must be used, followed by the year of publication in parentheses (e.g. last name, 2012). In the case of quotations, the page numbers must be given (last name, 2012, p. 15). If there are three or more authors, the first author must be referred to, followed by et al. and the year (last name et al., 2012). If more than one publication by author(s) is referred to with the same year, the year plus a, b, etc. must be used (for example: 1997a, b). Strings of references in the text must be arranged first in chronological order, and then alphabetically within individual years. The referenced year and the spelling of last names in the text must exactly match those in the reference section. 2 All references must be listed in alphabetical order by names of authors at the end of the article, and before the appendix (if any). References must contain the exact name of the journal, the volume, the issue, the first and last page number, and the year. When styling references, the following examples must be followed: Contributions to collective books: Anselin L., Bera A. (1998), Spatial Dependence in Linear Regression Models. In: Ullah A., Giles D. (eds.), Handbook of Applied Economic Statistics. New York: Marcel Dekker, 237-290. Books: Barro R. J., Sala-i-Martin X. (1995), Economic Growth. Columbus: McGraw-Hill. Journal articles: Arellano M., Bond S. (1991), Some Test Specifications for Panel Data: Monte Carlo Evidence and an Application to Employment Equations, Review of Economic Studies, 58, 2: 577-297. Working papers and other unpublished manuscripts (if any): Fally T., Paillacard R., Terra C. (2008), Economic Geography and Wages in Brazil: Evidence from Micro-Data. Mimeo. Dulleck U., Bezemer D. J., Frijters P. (2004), Social Capital, Creative Destruction and Economic Growth. Vienna: University of Vienna, Department of Economics. Vienna Economics Papers no. 0406. Nannestad P., Svendsen G. T. (2005), Institutions, Culture, and Trust. Paper presented at the conference Quality of Government: What it is, How to get it, Why it matters, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, November. Appendix The Appendix (if any) must be positioned after the references, and must not be numbered. If there are a number of appendices, they should appear as subsections with the letters A, B, C, etc. Equations, tables, and figures in appendices must be numbered A1, A2, A3, etc. (i.e., numbering starts anew in the Appendix, with an “A” for “Appendix” before each number). 3 4 Style list for formatting Style Paper Title Style Authors’ name style Abstract title style Abstract text style Paper short title style (didascalia) Paper Text style a.
