2011 Pledge Day on “My Pledge to Act — To Get Our Dream, To Set

2012 Pledge Day on “My Pledge to Act — To Set Our Goals towards a
Fruitful Life”
Speech by School Head/Principal

(for primary and secondary schools)
Teachers and students,
It is the start of a new school year. Welcome back, students. Today is a
very special, meaningful day. It marks not only the beginning of the school year,
but also the launch of our Pledge Day on “My Pledge to Act — To Set Our
Goals towards a Fruitful Life”.
Students, we have different goals in different stages of life. Have you set
your goal for this year? Or have you thought about how to have a fruitful life?
What is the meaning of life? What is your relation with other people? What is
your responsibility towards school, society, country and even the world?
Whatever your answers are to these questions, I would like you to spend some
time thinking about them now.
We should think seriously about the questions that I’ve just mentioned.
The rapid pace of our lives pushes us to move forward yet we are unable to
stop and think about our direction of life. Unless we have a goal, we are unable
to have a direction to live meaningfully towards a fruitful life. You may not
only set goals personally such as in your study, but also in relations with your
family, or fellow students. As we will have more interactions with others, the
society, the country and the world as we grow up, it is important to improve our
personal qualities so that we can fulfill our obligations towards ourselves, our
family, our school, our society, our country and the world.
If you know what your goals and dreams are, have you ever made any
action plans? We must understand it takes actions to achieve our goals steps by
steps towards a fruitful life. As it is known that “The long journey of thousands
of miles starts from your feet”, all success must start from the first step of your
feet, and then move forward seriously by each step. Even if success is still
thousands of miles away, we will eventually move forward steps by steps. We
must learn something in the process. Let’s set a goal in silence now. (Let
students have a few moments of silence to think about this.)
Now, let us make a pledge today. Starting from today, we will pursuit our
dream, set our goal and take actions towards a fruitful life.
Finally, I wish all of you a happy and fruitful school year. Thank you!
