1 Local Information Service , Client User Manual
LIS (local information service) client is an easy to use MFC dialog box based program
for Windows CE (IPAC) based platform.
The user manual is divided by the different options of the LIS client program.
1.1 Starting up
For starting up the program run LIS_CLIENT.EXE file.
The main window of the program will be opened.
If you haven’t inserted an IP number before, please read “IP configuration” before you
start.
1.2 Main Window
The main window implements a graphic user interface (GUI) for searching at the LIS
database.
Currently the client – server is impalement using the TCP/IP protocol, but it is done in
such a way that when a Bluetooth device will be given, only minor changes will have to
be done to easily switch to Bluetooth protocol.

By pressing exit (button 5, Figure 1 : Main window) the LIS program will end.
For information about buttons 1 – 4 read the following chapters.
1.3 Searching room
In order to search a room do the following stages:
1. On the main window press “search room” (button 1, Figure 1 : Main
window).
2. The following window will open:

3. Fill the information fields:

Room number – edit box 1, Figure 2 : Search room
window.

Room name – edit box 2, Figure 2 : Search room window.

Phone number – edit box 3 + 4, Figure 2 : Search room
window. When using phone number, an area code must be
given as well.
4. To start the search press go (button 6, Figure 2 : Search room window).
Note:

The search algorithm is “exact match” only.

If more than one field is filled, the result will be the intersection of all the
different results.

Only one room was found.

There is more than one result.
1.3.1 Receiving room result (only one result)
If you search room and there is only one result, the follow window will be opened:

At this window (Figure 3 : Room details window) you can see all the room details, such
as:

Room name – edit box 1 , Figure 3 : Room details window.

Room number – edit box 2, Figure 3 : Room details window.

The phones at the room – list 3, Figure 3 : Room details window.

Personal at sits in the room – list 4 , Figure 3 : Room details window.

Events at the room – list 5 , Figure 3 : Room details window.
In order to close this window (Figure 3 : Room details window) press cancel (button 6,
Figure 3 : Room details window).
1.3.2 Receiving room result (More than one result)
If you search a room and there are multiple results the following window will be opened:

1.4 Searching person
In order to search a person, do the following stages:
1. On the main window press search person (button 2, Figure 1 : Main
window).
2. The following window will be opened:

3. Fill the known search fields:

First name – edit box 1, Figure 5 : Search person window.

Family name – edit box 2, Figure 5 : Search person
window.

Middle name – edit box 3, Figure 5 : Search person
window.

Electronic mail – edit box 4, Figure 5 : Search person
window.

Room number – The office number of the wanted person.

Room name – The office name of the wanted person. Edit


Phone number – you must supply phone number and area
code, edit box 7+8, Figure 5 : Search person window.
4. To start search press go (button 10, Figure 5 : Search person window).
Note:

The search algorithm is an “exact match” only.

In case of more than one field inserted the result is an intersection of all
results.
There are two possible results:

Only one person found.

There is more than one result.
1.4.1 Receiving person result (one result only)
If you search person and there is only one result, the follow window will be opened:

such as:




Room list – The list of the person’s offices, list 7, Figure 6 :

Phones – The list of the person’s phones, list 8, Figure 6 :




Comment – exit box 10, Figure 6 : Person details window.
In order to close this window (Figure 6 : Person details window) press cancel (button 11,
Figure 6 : Person details window).
1.4.2 Receiving person result (more than one result)
If you search a person and there is more than one result the following window will be
opened:

In the result list (list 1, Figure 7 : Choose result window) you can see the different result
of the search operation. In each line one result. In order to get the full details, choose the
person by picking it (list 1, Figure 7 : Choose result window) and press “get more details”
(button 2, Figure 7 : Choose result window). One result window will be opened (see:
Receiving person result.
1.5 IP configuration
In order to create communication with LIS server you must supply the server IP number.
To get the number ask the programming administrator at the Technion.
If you already have the number press configuration (button 3, Figure 1 : Main window),
the following window will be opened:

In current IP (edit box 1, Figure 8 : IP configuration window) you can see the current IP
number.
In order to edit the IP number insert the new number to new IP (edit box 2, Figure 8 : IP
configuration window) and press save IP (button 3, Figure 8 : IP configuration window).
If the operation ended successfully you’ll see the new number at the current IP.
In order to close the window press cancel (button 4, Figure 8 : IP configuration window).
1.6 Getting help
In order to get help just press get help (button 4, Figure 1 : Main window).
