Installing Fedora Linux on Virtual Box
Task 1 – Download Virtual Box
Step 1: Search Google for Virtual Box, go to Virtual Box Downloads page
Step 2: Click on download link for “VirtualBox 5.0.12 for Windows hosts”
Step 3: Click Run to Run the installer after download
Step 4: Installer downloads, opens, click “Next”
Step 5: Leave defaults, Click Next
Step 6: Create shortcuts as desired, click Next
Step 7: Read warning, click Yes
Step 8: Click Install
Step 9: Accept any User Account Control messages, installer installs program.
Step 10: Leave option to start virtual box checked, click “Finish”
Step 11: Virtual Box Opens
Task 2 – Download Fedora Linux (Workstation)
Step 1: Google Fedora Linux
Step 2: Open “getfedora.org”
Step 3: Click “Download Now” for Workstation configuration
Step 4: Click “Download” for Fedora 23 Workstation
Step 5: Click “Save” to Save file in downloads
Step 6: File downloads
Task 3 – Set Up Virtual Machine for Fedora
Step 1: Open VirtualBox
Step 2: Click “New”, set VM name and OS properties
Step 3: Allocate 1 GB of RAM (or, 1024 MB)
Step 4: Create a virtual hard disk now
Step 5: Leave default of VDI selected
Step 6: Leave default of dynamically allocated selected
Step 7: Set file size to 8.00 GB, click Create
Step 8: Virtual Machine created
Task 4 – Mount Installation ISO to Virtual Machine
Step 1: With FedoraVM highlighted, click “Settings”
Step 2: With Settings window open, choose “Storage”
Step 3: With Storage settings open, click “Adds Optical Drive” icon (CD with green plus sign) next to “Controller: IDE”
Step 4: Select “Choose Disk”
Step 5: Select the ISO file downloaded in Task 2
Step 6: ISO image is now mounted to VM, Click OK
Task 5 -- Install Fedora on Virtual Machine
Step 1: With FedoraVM highlighted, click “Start”
Step 2: Virtual Machine Starts, Fedora Starts
Step 3: After a few moments, Installation options appear, choose “Install to Hard Drive”
Step 4: Choose English as Language
Step 5: Click on “Installation Destination”
Step 6: Review information, leave defaults, Click “Done” in upper left corner
Step 7: When ready, click “Begin Installation”
Step 8: While installation is happening, click “Root Password”
Step 9: Set a root password, click “Done” in upper left when finished
Step 10: Click User Creation
Step 10: Enter Full Name, User name, check to make administrator, and enter password, click “Done” in upper left hand
corner when finished
Step 11: Wait until installation completes
Step 12: Installation complete, click “Quit”
Step 13: From Machine menu, select “ACPI Shutdown”
Step 14: When asked, Power off the Machine
Step 15: Return to Storage Settings of Fedora VM
Step 16: Right Click the CD previously added and select “Remove attachment”
Step 17: CD is now removed
Step 18: Save Settings, Start FedoraVM again

3. A dynamically allocated hard drive takes space on the host hard drive only as it expands. A fixed hard drive
takes all of its capacity at once.
