Migration of PlaNet system to SONET version
Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A. updates owned GIS class system. Migration of PlaNet system to SONET
version is performed by WINUEL of Sygnity Group. Period of project realisation expires in end of march 2008.
SONET is technological and functional extension of PlaNet application. PlaNet system has been implemented in
2002-2003 by ComputerLand SA (now Sygnity SA). Migration of this system to SONET version allows Vattenfall
Distribution Poland S.A. to update its system, utility and application software to the latest technologies. As
amount of processed data increased greatly, the most important features of the new system are accelerated
analysis and optimised ergonomics.
Both software versions (SONET and PlaNet) were developed by team of architects, analytics and programmers
from Hanslik Laboratorium Oprogramowania Company, now working in WINUEL SA (in 2006 products and staff
of Hanslik Company were introduced in WINUEL structures).
Basic SONET application is a versatile GIS-type tool. It is prepared to operate using any source of GIS data (files,
data bases, raster, WMS). SONET is used to support any business processes bound to network assets modelled
in GIS technology, including work related to network passporting, network and object evidence as well as
performing of network tasks. Basic module of this solution is SONET software with dedicated set of projects, each
responsible for relevant functional areas, supporting servicing of asset management processes, energy network
exploitation and supporting integration with other IT systems (e.g. SAP, SCADA).
What distinguishes SONET among other GIS tools is a feasibility to configure via CASE tool instead of
programming. Applications developed using SONET solution can be generated in related JARC application
server as web browser solutions. SONET applications can be also launched via terminal services on remote
computer – this is recommended method of work in situation when network does not guarantee required
capacity.
