Neighbors Feeding Neighbors
Vale will be joining other local churches and Generosity Feeds in
embarking on a new initiative to address hunger in our local
schools. We will be working to decrease the debilitating effects of
food insecurity on children in our community by packaging and
providing nutritious and delicious meals for them to take home.
First Sunday Mission
On the first Sunday of each month, members of Vale’s youth group prepares hot lunches and transports them to
Franklin Square in Northwest DC, where they feed and engage in fellowship with up to 150 homeless people.
Southeast DC Food Pantry
Vale collects monetary and food donations to stock a pantry that helps feed six families in a neighborhood in
Anacostia every month. For Thanksgiving, we provide the fixings for ten complete turkey dinners. This
ministry has been ongoing for 15 years.
FACETS Hot Meals Program
Every other month, in partnership with FACETS—a nonprofit organization in Fairfax—Vale prepares and
delivers 80-100 hot dinners to homeless men, women, and children living on the street and in the motels along
the Rte. 50 corridor in Fairfax.
Hypothermia Prevention Shelters/The Lamb Center
Every winter, Vale partners with FACETS and the Interfaith Community in their effort to prevent deaths from
hypothermia. Vale provides dinners, lunches, and volunteers to support two or three local churches in feeding
and sheltering homeless men and women overnight. We also, in conjunction with The Lamb Center—the day
shelter for homeless people in the area—host one of the picnics held during the summer to build on the
relationships formed with homeless individuals during the shelter program.
STOP Hunger Now
Vale UMC’s Christmas tree sales help fund Stop Hunger Now, an international organization that focuses
primarily on hunger around the world. For the past 6 years, we have held a packaging event in which people of
all ages from the community and church have packaged over 450,000 meals. These meals have been distributed
to third-world countries to fight hunger.
