FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s Music on the Mountain Concert Series Brings in 12,427 Cans of Food for LIFT-UP Community support for this mountain-top concert series continues to grow, with a big boost this year from its sponsors. Since the inception of Music on the Mountain in 2009, more than 43,000 cans of food have been collected for the LIFT-UP food pantries. GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 24, 2014) — This has been a record-breaking year for Music on the Mountain, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s mountain-top concert series. Since the summer kickoff concert in May, the community has donated 12,427 cans for the LIFT-UP community food pantry, exceeding the park’s goal of 10,000 cans by almost 25 percent. The total since the series started in 2009 is 43,598. “LIFT-UP is extremely grateful for the tremendous outpouring of generosity displayed by Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, and all who have supported their efforts over the past six summers. With more than 43,000 cans of food collected since 2009, it is one of the largest ongoing efforts to assist LIFT-UP on record,” said Kimberly Loving, executive director, LIFT-UP. To put that in perspective, LIFT-UP provides four days’ worth of food for families that visit its food pantries. Approximately 10 cans go into a bag of groceries, along with packaged items like cereal and pasta. So for every 1,000 cans of food collected, 100 bags of groceries can be put together, which will feed 25 families for four days. Twelve thousand canned items fill 1,200 bags, and will feed 300 families for four days. Glenwood Caverns’ summer-long drive has triggered other food drives to join in. Glenwood Insurance Agency launched its Thousand Can Drive this summer, which prompted Murray Dental Group and Heim and Johnson, DDS, to engage in some friendly competition to see which could collect the most food for Glenwood Insurance to deliver to Glenwood Caverns, and ultimately to LIFT-UP’s food pantries. Together, these three organizations brought in 3,502 cans of food. Community Banks of Colorado held a food drive earlier in the summer that garnered an additional 350 cans. “This is truly community spirit in action! LIFT-UP’s goal is to assist every family and individual that comes to our pantries for help during times of temporary hardship,” added Loving. “For six years, Glenwood Caverns’ Music on the Mountain has had a significant impact on our ability to meet the needs of our struggling neighbors. We are so thankful to all who have participated and made this wonderful donation of food possible.” This year’s Music on the Mountain Concert Series sponsors are Bighorn Toyota; Community Banks of Colorado; Dalby, Wendland & Co. Inc.; Glenwood Springs Post Independent; Lift FM; Perri’s Collision; Swire Coca-Cola; Glenwood TV; Glenwood Insurance Agency and Hotel Glenwood Springs. - more - Record-breaking Year for Music on the Mountain/Page Two “Once again, the community has stepped forward and made the Music on the Mountain can drive a huge success.
