GBG Foundation makes first major GIK donation to Ghana
GHANA (09 June 2011) – Global Benefits Group Foundation today announced the completion
of its first major Gifts In Kind donation project. Essential medical supplies and medical
equipment, including complete medical suites, valued in excess of USD $330,000 were
donated to the Ghana Health Service and arrived in Ghana on April 29, 2011.
Working in partnership with International Relief and Development (IRD), the Washington,
D.C.-headquartered international NGO, GBG Foundation helped fund and transport the
shipment of medical equipment and supplies to the health service of Ghana.
With a population of approximately 23.5 million people, an approximate per capita health
expenditure of $100 per annum and an under-5 child mortality rate approaching 12% (primary
causes: malaria, diarrhea, respiratory infection, and neonatal conditions), the Ghana Health
service faces significant challenges. Out of 177 countries in the Human Development Index,
Ghana ranks 135, according to WHO Country Focus Report.
“We are delighted to be able to make this contribution to the Health Service of Ghana,” said
James Pinto of The GBG Foundation. “It’s an excellent first project for The GBG Foundation,
and we look forward to working with other partnering NGO’s and supporting other projects
around the world.”
