The Grade and Score indicate your student’s understanding of the work they have completed. Overdue Assessments (Focus Areas) and Overdue Projects (Cognitive skills) indicate your student’s pace through the course content. Please see the back of this document for how the overall grades are calculated and what an “Incomplete” means. Your student’s work may be overdue and/or showing an “Incomplete (I)” for a couple reasons: 1. They have a project(s) overdue, or 2. They have turned in the project but did not receive a passing score, in which case the assignment will remain incomplete until they pass, or 3. They have overdue focus areas (assessments). Students with overdue work are behind pace to complete their work this school year, even if they have a passing grade on their completed work. Students should pay special attention to courses with overdue work so they do not fall too far behind. Incomplete grades will be converted to failing grades at the end of the school year. ______________________________________________________ Parent Signature Date Please sign and return this progress report to the student’s mentor. *** This report card is a snapshot of the Basecamp progress your student has made to date. You can access their progress daily with your Parent Basecamp login. The grades are subject to change until they are final at the end of the school year.*** What do the grades look like? Grades show both the competencies students have as well as the growth they have made. Students’ overall grades could appear as any one of the following: C- to A+, N/A (no project graded yet), and I (Incomplete). When you log into to view your student’s PLP, the “Grades” tab shows your student’s grades in all courses based on his/her current pace. The grades are NOT final until after the year ends and may change after completing a project or passing a content assessment. What does an incomplete mean? We expect our students to: 1) submit 100% of their projects, 2) achieve, on average, grade level performance on his/her cognitive skills, on average and 3) pass 100% of their Power Focus Areas to be prepared for success in college. If a student is not on pace to accomplish these three goals, then they will have an Incomplete. What does the breakdown of grades look like? All courses (except math courses) 70% of a course's grade for all subjects except math are graded based on a student’s cognitive skills in projects. Students must complete every project to pass a class. If a student does not complete a project or the cognitive skill average for a course is below 70%, then the student will have an “Incomplete” grade. He/she can change the Incomplete into a letter grade by completing any overdue projects and improving in his/her cognitive skill scores. 30% of a student's grade reflects the mastery of content in a course. This is split between Power Focus Areas (worth 21%) and Additional Focus Areas (worth 9%). Students show mastery by passing content assessments. Students must pass all content assessments in the Power Focus Areas to pass a class. Why does math look so different? Math Courses 30% of a course's grade are graded based on a student’s cognitive skills in projects. Students must complete every project to pass a class. If a student does not complete a project or the cognitive skill average for a course is below 70%, then the student will have an “Incomplete” grade. He/she can change the Incomplete into a letter grade by completing any overdue projects and improving in his/her cognitive skill scores.
