School vision statement
School context
School planning process
Old Bonalbo Public School is committed to its students,
parents and local community. We value greatly the
partnership that exists at our school between students,
parents, community members and staff. Our vision is to
help students reach their full potential in all fields of
endeavour and to take their place in the world as
successful and productive global citizens.
Old Bonalbo Public school is a small, isolated school
with an enrolment of 26 students. It is located 112
kilometres north west of Lismore and 35 kilometres
south of the Queensland border.
Students, parents, community members and staff have
been involved in shaping the new school plan.
This will be achieved by :
• Maintaining an inclusive and welcoming school
where students are valued and nurtured.
• Assisting students to do the best they can in all
Key Learning Areas.
• Providing a stimulating and engaging school
environment that meets the individual needs of
students.
• Continuing to value the strong and effective
partnership that exists between students, parents,
community members and staff.
Our school is highly regarded by our local community. We
continue to provide stimulating experiences for our
students and produce achievements that all stakeholders
can be proud of.
Our school is highly regarded by its community. All
school events attract strong parent and community
support. Our parents and community are proud of the
considerable achievements of our students. Our P and
C conduct a wonderful Fireworks Spectacular that
raises funds that have helped our students fly to
Sydney for the Small Schools Touch Football Finals for
five of the past six years and attend incredible cultural
performances at the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane.
Our school has a great atmosphere that welcomes our
stakeholders and visitors. It attracts large crowds in
excess of 50 people to its Term Assemblies and well
over 100 people to its Annual Speech Night.
All stakeholders are aware of our falling enrolments in
recent years and are determined to maintain and
improve our wonderful school for many years to come.
At a student meeting held in term four of 2014 students
were asked what they thought were the strengths of our
school and how we could make it an even better school.
At a school evaluation meeting parents and community
members were asked to nominate the strengths of our
school and how it could be improved.
Staff examined student placement on the literacy
continuum, NAPLAN Smart data, school based
assessments and the achievements of the previous school
plan. In a number of staff meetings staff used the feedback
from all stakeholders to formulate 3 strategic directions and
how these directions would be implemented in the new
school plan.
Our Principal discussed and shared our school plan in
separate meetings with the Principals of Tabulam and
Urbenville Public Schools. The school plan was also
critiqued at a Principals Network Meeting in February“Reforms- Towards A Shared Understanding”.
In March, 2016 the School Plan was revised. The essence
on the plan was retained with further unpacking of relevant
department policies embedded. Community consultation of
the revised edition took place in February 2016.
