However if the manufacturer/importer does not distribute and sells the product the primary distributor or supplier of the product will then own the NAPPI code. o Manufacturers, wholesalers or distributors of medical devices must successfully apply for a license to manufacture, import, act as wholesaler of, or distribute such medical device before 2 May 2004 in accordance with the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act (Act 101 of 1965). Product requirements: o The product must be a disposable and/or limited use product (fractional) that can be classified as a medical device in terms of Act 101 of 1965, used in procedures with reference to a particular patient. Disposable – single use = quantity 1 (one) Limited Life Reusable – limited = quantity 2 – 99 uses o All products that can be linked to a tariff code would qualify for allocation of a NAPPI, however where the cost of the product is already included in the tariff, across all disciplines, a NAPPI code will not be allocated. o The following products would not be eligible for NAPPI allocation notwithstanding certain tariff structures and/or applicable funder/provider agreements: All capital equipment.
