Skills to be taught this term Year 4 Literacy - We will continue to work on our writing skills by Summer Term using a range of adverbs and sentence structures as well as using inverted commas to show direct speech. After researching technological developments in the Victorian age, Topic work we will write a report to explain what we have learnt. We will also be investigating the techniques used in adverts in order to create an advert for our number board game. As part of Number Games our topic, we will write a set of instructions for how to play the new board games. Numeracy – In our numeracy work we will be focussing on measuring accurately and converting measures when designing and making our board games. We will also continue to work on How you can help Please continue to listen to your child read for 5 minutes every day. After they have read, ask them questions about what they think might happen next, about the character’s feelings and actions and ask them what they have enjoyed about reading the text. Please support your child with the completion and return of their homework as this will really support their learning. Homework will be given out on Fridays to be returned to school on Wednesdays, with literacy and numeracy on alternate weeks. Spellings will be given out each Friday with a spelling test on the following Friday. solving problems involving fractions. During the summer term, we will continue to develop our mental maths strategies, particularly focussing on recalling our times tables facts to 12 x 12. Universal skills (ongoing) We will continue to develop our team work skills by sharing and listening carefully to each other’s ideas and solving problems to plan and make a group board game. What we are learning about this term Please bring in PE kits to keep at school for the whole of this half term. (Black shorts, white t-shirts and pumps) PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Science – We will be learning about which materials can conduct electricity, how to make and draw electric circuits as well as investigating how different numbers or types of components can affect the strength of a light bulb in an electrical circuit as our board games will need to include an electrical feature. History – We will be developing our history enquiry skills by using a range of sources to find out about the technological developments of the Victorian age, the positive and negative impacts of those developments at that time and the impact on our lives today. PE – This half term we will be focussing on our fielding and batting skills in team games such as rounders. Personal, Social and Emotional – We will be thinking carefully about our individual strengths when deciding on the roles and responsibilities for each member of our group when designing and making our board games.
