Using the waters of Botany Bay, Pacific Dragons DBOCC will be hosting an AOCRA Grand Prix Outrigger Canoe
Race.
These events will include:
Junior & Novice OC6 Race
Briefing at 8:00am
Race start at 8.15am
Distance 4km
Short Course All Divisions
Briefing at 9:00am
Race start at 9:15pm
Distance 9km
Long Course Women’s and Mixed OC6 Race
Briefing at 10.45am
Race start at 11.00am
Distance 18km
Long Course Men’s OC6 Race
Briefing at 1:15pm
Race start at 1.30pm
Distance 18km
Presentations to take place approximately 30mins after the finish of the last race.
ALL CANOES WILL BE SCRUITINISED AND MUST HAVE: STORM COVERS; 2 BAILERS; 25M TOW ROPE; A
SPARE PADDLE; and 6 APPROVED PFDs

RACE INFORMATION
** Please note that in the instance of bad weather, the short and long courses will be modified to stay inside the
harbour and the key course direction will head West towards Brighton Le Sands **
JUNIOR AND NOICE 4KM
Start in front of Frenchmans Bay head straight out right from beach towards port towards airport runway. There
will be a turning buoy approximately 500m on from Molineaux Point Lookout, turn and return to start/finish line.

SHORT COURSE ALL DIVISIONS 9KM
Start in front of Frenchmans Bay head South East to Cruwee Cove point, turn at buoy before headland and return
to Botany Bay, heading West towards Brighton Le Sands, after Yarra Bay Point towards the airport runway. There
will be a turning buoy approximately 500m on from Molineaux Point Lookout, turn and return to start/finish line.
1st turn coordinates Cruwee Cove: -34.001578, 151.245595
2nd turn coordinates at Botany Bay: -33.982847, 151.206476
NOTE: Depending on registered crew numbers, Short Course may be a staggered start by division. As all divisions
will be required on the water at the same time, should you need to borrow a boat, please advise via contact email
in the Queries and Contacts section below.
LONG COURSE ALL DIVISIONS 18KM
Start in front of Frenchmans Bay head round the point at Cruwee Cove and go North East towards Long Bay. Turn
at buoy and return to Botany Bay, heading West towards Brighton Le Sands, after Yarra Bay Point towards the
airport runway. There will be a turning buoy approximately 500m on from Molineaux Point Lookout, turn and
return to start/finish line (note: this course assumes a NE wind, in the instance of a Southerly wind, the direction
out of the bay will be altered towards the south. This course also assumes conditions are safe to go out the
heads).

In the case of bad weather, all clubs registered to race will be notified by Friday 12th February at 4pm if the race
course will alter.

Juniors
$15 per head ($90 per team) per race
Seniors
Novice Crews $15 per head ($90 per team)
Short Course $20 per head ($120 per team)
Long Course $30 per head ($180 per team)

PARKING
Parking for trailers is on Anzac Parade around the headland.
Trailer loading and unloading is at the area near the roundabout and the Boatshed restaurant – there will be
volunteers directing trailers where to go – please ensure you unload and move your trailer away to park as quickly
as possible.
Car parking is available along Anzac Parade and Endeavour Ave.
AMENITIES
Toilets are located in the park at Frenchmans Beach.
FOOD
Lots of fabulous food will be available: BBQ; home baked goodies; cold drinks; etc will be available for sale.
Additional food can be bought at the local cafes.
FIRST AID
First Aid will be in attendance at the race site.
SAFETY

Members of the Zone Committee will perform safety inspections. Canoes that do not meet AOCRA safety
Guidelines, maybe ineligible to race. Non-AOCRA approved canoes will be ineligible to race. All canoes must have
PFDs, 2 bailers, tow rope.
