Learn Play Therapy at WCSU Play therapy is an innovative way to work therapeutically with children. It is researchbased and offers the therapist the tools needed to help clients ages 3 to 12, teens and adults prevent or resolve psychological difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. Western Connecticut State University offers a way to earn all of the 150 training hours needed to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) through the Association for Play Therapy in one academic year. Program: Intro to Play Therapy is offered each fall, one Saturday each month, from September through December. Advanced Play Therapy is offered in the same format each spring semester. A fall workshop featuring nationally recognized speakers is also planned and will offer 15 CEs. Trainers: Athena Drewes, Psy.D., RPT-S and Gabriel Lomas, Ph.D., RPT-S. Dr. Drewes is currently President of NYAPT and its founder, and past Board Director of APT. She is a prolific writer of play therapy books, chapters, and articles, and is a frequently invited guest presenter nationally and internationally. Dr. Lomas has published and presented widely on play therapy, disability, forensics, and other mental health issues.
