Learn Play Therapy at WCSU
Play therapy is an innovative way to work therapeutically with children. It is researchbased and offers the therapist the tools needed to help clients ages 3 to 12, teens and adults
prevent or resolve psychological difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.
Western Connecticut State University offers a way to earn all of the 150 training hours needed to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) through the Association for Play Therapy in
one academic year.
Program: Intro to Play Therapy is offered each fall, one Saturday each month, from
September through December. Advanced Play Therapy is offered in the same format each
spring semester. A fall workshop featuring nationally recognized speakers is also planned
and will offer 15 CEs.
Trainers: Athena Drewes, Psy.D., RPT-S and Gabriel Lomas, Ph.D., RPT-S. Dr. Drewes is
currently President of NYAPT and its founder, and past Board Director of APT. She is a prolific
