Starchy Foods
Here are some suggestions from the Healthy School Ambassadors on
how you can eat starchy foods daily.
Starchy foods are part of a balanced
diet and help us to stay healthy by
providing lots of energy through
carbohydrates and they contain fibre,
calcium, iron and vitamin B
vitamins.
e.g. potatoes,
bread, cereals,
rice and pasta
Starchy foods should be around a 1/3 of
your plate or daily food intake
Here are some ideas for how to include fruit and vegetables in your healthy lunchbox.
Try all sorts of different
breads, including: rolls,
flatbreads, bagels and wraps
REMEMBER; wholemeal and
granary bread have a lot more
goodness in them than in white
bread.
Couscous is very quick and easy to
cook and also makes very good cold
salads.
Rice salads can be really tasty
and a good way of using up
cooked rice (but remember to
store cooked rice in the fridge).
Mix it up with vegetables,
chopped fruit, raisins etc.
