Organelle Jigsaw Class organization of the Jigsaw problem There are 4 different groups of organelles to research. You will be placed in a group. You have to carry out individual research using your textbook and other sources. Write a summary of your research and bring it into class next week Group 1 Lysosome, vesicle, centriole Group 2 Rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosome, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Group 3 Golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, cytoskeleton, Group 4 Nucleus, nucleolus, chloroplast, On one side of a note card paste an image of your organelle. On the other summarize your research in the form of bullet points. You should only put around 4-5 facts on the back of the card. You will then be put into new groups with a specialist that knows something about the other organelles of a cell. Your class might have four groups of four or just have three groups with some overlap. 1, 2, 3, 4 1, 2, 3, 4 1, 2, 3, 4 1, 2, 3, 4 In class you will have to use your combined knowledge to solve 3 to 4 problems using just your note cards. For each organelle/cell part, research the following: - It’s structure: what molecules make it up and how are they arranged? - It’s function – what does it do? - What other organelles does it work with and what bigger tasks do they accomplish together for the cell? Also try to think of an analogy for the role each of your organelles plays in the cell. For example, if a cell is a town, then what part of the town would your organelle be?
