Using the Open XML Converter to convert Office files
If .docx files do not automatically open using the Open XML Converter, launch the
converter from the Applications folder:
Once it opens, click and drag the .docx (.xlsx or .pptx) file over the window to the area
specified:
Once the document converts, it will automatically open in Microsoft Word but will also
save as an .rtf file version in the folder where the .docx file is saved so you will have two
versions of the file.

Using the Open XML Converter to convert Office files
If you close the file and reopen it, it will open in Text Edit.
I recommend that when you convert the file for the first time save it as a Word
Document. To do this, click File > Save As. Change the Format from Rich Text Format
(RTF) to Word Document. This will ensure that the file will open with Microsoft Word
every time. Change the file name and location if desired and click Save.
