Uniform Inspection- All Cadets are required to wear the dress uniform that they are issued.
Physical Training- All Cadets are required to dress out in running shoes, sweats or shorts. All
shirts must have sleeves.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Junior ROTC program is a cooperative effort on the part of the Army and the host institution
to provide high school pupils opportunities for all-around development. The program provides
excellent training opportunities in citizenship, administration, management, supervision,
leadership responsibilities, and the opportunity for the exercise of authority and respect for
school rules and law and order. Satisfactory completion of the program can lead to advanced
placement credit in Senior ROTC or advanced rank in all branches of the Armed Forces.
LET I -- The mission of Leadership Education and Training (LET) is to motivate first year
JROTC Cadets to be better citizens. To accomplish this purpose, the text discusses citizenship,
leadership, and a number of other courses designed to help the Cadets succeed in high school and
after graduation.
LET 1 A/B/C
3 Trimesters – 1.5 credits
Grades Level: 9th
(1st Trimester) Citizenship, Introduction to Leadership, Drill, Physical Fitness
(2nd Trimester) Character Development, Life Skills, Drill, Physical Fitness
(3rd Trimester) Communication Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Drill, Physical Fitness
The following topics are a major part of this course: insight into ethical values and principles that
underlines good citizenship including integrity, responsibility, and respect for constituted
authority; development of leadership potential with attendant abilities to live and work
cooperatively as a member of the military team: familiarity with the history, purpose, and
accomplishments of the United States Army; appreciation of the importance of physical fitness
in maintaining good health; and, ability to think logically and to communicate effectively both
orally and in writing. Introduction to leadership development is also included in this course,
emphasizing introduction to JROTC, the Army, hygiene and first aid, map reading, weapon
safety, marksmanship, leadership development, drill, and methods of instruction.

Following a leadership-based integrated approach, JROTC offers continued refinement of
students’ abilities in leadership arts skills. The following topics are a major part of this course:
insight into ethical values and principles that underlines good citizenship including integrity,

appreciation of the importance of physical fitness in maintaining good health; and ability to think
logically and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The opportunity also exists to join the Raider, Drill, Color Guard, and Rifle Teams. These
activities are strictly on a voluntary basis and are performed during non-school hours. Students
must participate in the try outs for the teams. Students must have a Kentucky H.S. Athletic
Physical on file at school in order to compete in Raider competitions. This is not a club.
REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS / UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT
Required textbooks will be provided for you. All equipment will be provided by the department at no cost to the Cadet. All Cadets will sign for equipment IAW Army property accountability
procedures. In other words, you will sign for your equipment on a “loan” basis, and return it at
the end of the trimester – cleaned and accounted for. Items lost or damaged due to
irresponsibility may be charged to the student. This is your uniform, take pride in it.

UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
All Cadets are required to wear their dress uniform on Wednesdays for uniform inspections. If
the Cadet is absent or fails to wear the uniform for any reason, they can make it up on Thursday
or the following Monday or Tuesday to earn partial or full credit by wearing their uniform.
PHYSICAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Physical training (PT) is normally scheduled for each Tuesday and Friday and conducted in the
gym or outside. The Cadet is responsible to dress appropriately for weather conditions when
going outside and will be allowed to wear what is needed for weather conditions. The Cadet will
dress out in athletic shorts, sweat pants, t-shirt with short or long sleeves, and running shoes. The
Presidential Fitness Test is administered twice a school year.
