HOW TO COMPLETE PAGE 1 – SECTION 3 OF THE LICENCE APPLICATION FORM 1. IS YOUR COMPANY/BUSINESS A CORPORATION? (Section 3 – B & 3 – C) If your legal name ends in any of the following, you are a CORPORATION: o Inc. (incorporated) o Corp. (corporation) o Ltd. (limited) YES NO (Section 3 – B & 3 – C) (Section 3 – A) 2. DO I NEED A MASTER BUSINESS LICENCE? 2. DO I NEED A MASTER BUSINESS LICENCE? If you are a corporation and you are carrying on business (identifying yourself to the public) in a name that is different than your full corporation name, then you must have that name registered. When you register that name, you will receive a Master Business Licence, from Service Ontario. Example 1: Corporation Name: John Doe Inc. Business Name: John’s Videos Example 2: Corporation Name: Videos and Games Corp. Business Name: Videos and Games Example 3: Corporation Name: 555555 Ontario Inc. Business Name: Jane Doe’s Convenience You need to register your full business name if you are a Sole Proprietorship carrying on business under a name other than your full name or a Partnership carrying on business under a name other than the full names of the partners. When you register that name, you will receive a Master Business Licence, from Service Ontario. You can obtain a Master Business Licence online through Service Ontario: https://www.ontario.ca/page/business-name-registration Note: The BUSINESS NAME you register should be the name you are carrying on business as or what the public knows you as.
