Assignment Submissions

Assignment Submissions
SPEAKER: In this video, you will learn about the different ways you can submit
assignments in Canvas. To learn more about this topic, visit the Canvas Guides at
guides.canvaslms.com. Additionally, permissions vary between users and institutions, so
what you see in this video may be different from what you see in Canvas.
First, open the assignment. Click the Submit Assignment button. If you do not see this
option, the assignment may be ungraded, may not require a submission, may be an inclass or on-paper submission, no longer available and closed, or a group assignment that
someone has already submitted.
After clicking Submit Assignment, you will see tabs that indicate different submission
types. Your instructor will decide what kinds of submissions are appropriate for each
assignment, so you won’t always see all of these options.
The first submission type you might see is File Upload. To upload one or more files as
your submission, click the File Upload tab. Click the Choose File or Browse button to
select a file to upload. A pop-up window will appear in your browser. Click the file title
and select Choose or Open to upload the file. As a side note, a copy of your uploaded file
will be saved in your personal files. You can delete this copy without affecting your
assignment submission. Note that your instructor may choose to limit the types of files
that you are allowed to submit. Add an additional file by clicking the Add Another File
link. You might choose to leave a comment for your instructor while submitting your
assignment. Do not copy and paste your assignment into the comment box. And last of
all, click the Submit Assignment button to submit your assignment.
Text Entry is the next assignment submission type. After clicking the Text Entry tab, you
can type or copy and paste your assignment text into the Rich Content Editor. The next
submission type is Website URL. Simply type or copy and paste the URL, or web
address, into the Website URL field. If your institution and instructor allow Google Doc
submissions, you will first need to have a Google ID or Gmail account, and have Google
Docs authorized in Canvas. Then, select the name of the file you wish to upload.
You can also record or upload audio or video as a submission type under the Media tab.
Click the Record/Upload Media button. Then record something new or upload existing
media for your assignment. Again, remember to always click the Submit Assignment
button for any submission type to ensure that your assignment is submitted.
Once submitted, you can verify any of your assignment submissions in the sidebar. You
will see the time it was turned in, which will be marked red if the assignment was late.
The Submission Details link is where you can view your submission, reviews from your
peers (if peer reviewed), or instructor comments. On the submission details page, you can
click the name of the assignment to download the original submission. You can also click
the View Feedback button to view the annotated version of your submitted assignment. If
the assignment is in a format that does not support feedback, Canvas will show the
Preview button. If a rubric was attached to the assignment, you may click the Show
Rubric link to see how you scored. You can also click the Re-submit Assignment link on
this page, or on the assignment page, as long as the availability date has not passed.
