The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is an alliance driven by the vision of a world without
malnutrition. Created in 2002 at a Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Children, GAIN has been working
in Bangladesh for the past 8 years in partnership with the government, development partners, UN agencies,
Private sector, Academia and civil society organisations. GAIN mobilises public-private partnerships and provides
financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. We have
special focus on children, girls and women in diversified nutrition areas because we know that helping them to have
nutritious diets is crucial to ending the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition and poverty.
GAIN is seeking to recruit an “Associate” for Maternal Nutrition intervention to Pilot a new intervention through
BRAC Health, Nutrition and Population Programme (HNPP) for one year. The Position will report to the Project
Manager of Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) Programme in Bangladesh and work as a member
of the Bangladesh Team.
Description
Overall Purpose:
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is working with BRAC since 2010 to implement Infant and Young
Child Nutrition (IYCN) Programme. The Program Associate will work with GAIN and BRAC team, as well as
coordinate with Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) and relevant directorates of Ministry of Health & Family
Welfare (MoH&FW) and other government and non-government stakeholders to ensure quality delivery and
adequate coordination.
Reporting to the Project Manager, MIYCN Program, the Associate, shall provide technical support as well as
oversee Maternal Nutrition intervention to Pilot a new intervention through BRAC Health, Nutrition and
Population Programme (HNPP) for one year.
S/he will ensure that the interventions are coordinated and so that overall project milestones and goals are met.
The role will include working with the project partners, all levels of government, civil society, private sector and
academia to facilitate a supportive stakeholder and policy environment in parallel to implementation.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Overall, the “Associate” shall be responsible for the overall implementation, quality monitoring and reporting of
the pilot of the Maternal Nutrition intervention.


Provide leadership and develop a detail implementation plan for pilot intervention with clear roles and
responsibilities of BRAC and other stakeholders;
Develop training materials for field staff of BRAC e.g. Field Level Managers, Programme Organiser,
Shasthya Kormi (SK), Shasthya Shebika (SS)relevant to intervention

Support in development of relevant Social and Behaviour Change materials in consultation with BRAC
HNPP, IPHN and partners
Work with GAIN MIYCN team and Technical Specialist of Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) in
implementing the pilot intervention of project
Provide ongoing support and need based capacity development inputs to BRAC implementation team
In collaboration with GAIN MLR and BRAC HNPP Monitoring Team, develop and ensure quality
implementation of a detail Monitoring Framework and monthly reporting system with BRAC
implementation
Track monthly progress of the intervention and report to GAIN and BRAC and ensure feedback from field
staff of BRAC are incorporated Work in collaboration with MLR, support evaluation team based on needs.
Engaging with and build strong and effective partnerships with key stakeholders at all levels, from
national to community level.
Responsible for documenting experiences, preparing reports, presentations, briefs and articles for
publication.

Job Requirements
Competences (Skills and Attributes)

Demonstrated expertise in SBCC principles and practices, as well as marketing.

Strong experience in community level project implementation and management, preferably for SBCC
and/or nutrition programs.

Analytical, with the ability to effectively liaise with creative and research agencies and government
offices.

A dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Proactive with a commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail.

Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure with frequent deadlines.

Ability to work in a multi-cultural, cross functional team with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Experience:

At least 5 years experiences in health/nutrition programme implementation at community level ( work
experience with BRAC is desirable)

Experience in conducting capacity building training for field staff

Experience in providing supportive supervision and programme monitoring at field level

Experience in analysis of data and quality reporting

Effective communication skills and ability to work effectively in challenging field situations is essential
Education:

Masters in Nutrition or Public Health are desirable
Other Requirements

Excellent command of written and spoken English and Bangla.

Willingness to travel to field (intervention sites) frequently
