Gaughan, Introduction to Analysis (5th ed.), AMS 2009 Students work with axioms and formal definitions, discover and write proofs and construct counterexamples. Coverage: chapter 0-4 (preliminaries, sequences, limits of functions, continuity, differentiation). C or better in MA 227 and MA 237. Two exams and a final. Final exam: December 11, Tuesday, 03:30pm-05:30pm Homework will be collected on Wednesdays. Quizzes will be given randomly, at the beginning of the class. If you are late you cannot take the quiz. NO MAKE UP TESTS ARE GIVEN unless you have a university approved excuse in writing. If you missed a test you must notify me withing 24 hours after the test. A missed test or final exam will result a grade F for the course. No make up quiz is given – unless you have a university approved excuse for being absent. No late homework is accepted. If you are absent more than 4 times, your grade is F for the course. By the end of the semester you will have a percentage for each test, for the final, and for the homework and quizzes combined. Your overall percentage is the arithmetic average of these percentages. Your overall percentage will be converted to letter grade as follows: [90,100] → A, [80,90) → B, [70,80) → C, [60,70) → D, [0,60) → F. Grades are non-negotiable! Losing your financial support, scholarship etc. is not a valid reason for getting a better grade. If you need a good grade you must study more! a) A calculator. b) A high-lighter pen.
