Noach ‫נח‬
Parsha Shorts
We finished off last week with the world going a bit
rubbishy and people not quite doing as G-d wanted. So
G-d decides to start over again. He picks Noach, the most
righteous man around to be the one survivor. Noach is
told to build a big ark and put a load of animals in it (not necessarily 2 by
2). Then it rains for 40 days and 40 nights, and there is loads of water.
Everything on the ground dies – man, animal, plant and rock. The water
hangs around for a while, and ark hits ground on Mt Ararat and Noach
sends out various birds to see if they can find any land. Finally, Hashem
tells Noach to leave the ark, and he does so. Hashem gives Noach the 7
Mitzvot of the Sons of Noach – a basic moral code for the world. Noach
then plants a vineyard and uses it a little too enthusiastically. The world
is then repopulated, and all spoke one language and lived in one place.
They found a lovely land (now Iraq) and tried to build a massive tower to
show their authority over the world as opposed to G-d's. It didn't work
and G-d got them all confused by mixing up people's languages. A bloke
called Avram is born and we shall hear more about him next week...

davening with us today!...Bnei Akiva is this week at the usual
time!...On 19th October there will be a guest Rabbi from Israel –
