Montgomery-Selma District Bible Bowl Competition Rules
Teams
A team consists of four members and no more than two alternates, one team member should serve as team captain. It is
expected that alternates will be present and ready for participation in the team competition activity. Each Church MAY
have more than one Team Represented. Team Age Categories: Youth: 8-19 & Adult: 20 & Over
General Rules
1. Local church teams MUST be ready to compete at the appointed time. All team members (including alternates)
MUST participate in the designated round to acquire points in the general competition.
2. Christ-like participation is expected. If a judge, quizmaster, or scorer notes improper participation among team
members or alternates, a warning will be given and a second warning will be issued if necessary. This second
warning will lead to team disqualification from the round and competition. No talking is allowed during any
phase of competition.
Team Competition—Preliminary Rounds
1. Each team will have four members and no more than two alternates.
2. The preliminary rounds will be in (10-15) minutes time frames.
3. Ties will be broken with bonus questions; the captain of team will answer the question.
Team Competition—Semi-Final and Final Round
1. The top five teams from preliminary rounds will compete in the semi-final round.
2. The top two teams from the semi-final round will compete in the final competition round.
3. The semi-final and final rounds will be in (20) minutes time frames
Team Competition—Format
1. The quizmaster will start each question with “Ready” and THEN ask for the answer.
2. The team whose buzzer lights up first has the right to answer the question first
3. The team will please wait to answer until after its buzzer has been acknowledged by the Quizmaster.
4. The first answer given will be the answer that will be judged correct or incorrect.
5. Judges' decisions shall be based on Master copy of questions and answers.
6. Answers given are to be judged as either "correct" or "incorrect." Teams are not permitted to "challenge" an
answer.
Team Competition—Bowl Round Rules
1. A team member may receive help from teammates in preparing an answer for a question.
2. Once the buzzer has been acknowledged, the team member has five (5) seconds to begin speaking his/her answer)
3. A team which does not begin to answer within the five (5) second time limit is considered to have answered
incorrectly.
4. If one team's answer is deemed "incorrect," the second team has the opportunity to answer the question. The
second team isn't required to answer.
5. If either team fails to turn its buzzer on within ten seconds following the reading of the question, the question will
be passed. Correct answers of unanswered or incorrectly answered questions may be revealed to the contestants
at the discretion of the judge.
6. In the event that a team switches on the buzzer and incorrectly answers before the Quizmaster has finished
reading the question, the Quizmaster shall re-read the entire question to the other teams, without interruption,
given them a chance to answer
Team Competition—Scoring
Scoring: The team which correctly answers the question receives ten (10) points.
Courtesy - Please show courtesy to the teams at the board and to those who have come to watch the Bible Bowl by
not talking or walking around during a game. Reserve all applause until the end of the match.
Scorekeeper and Judges - It is suggested that pastors or their appointees be the Scorekeepers and Judges. There
shall be two Scorekeeper and three Judges for each match and a timekeeper will also enforce the time rules.
Team Competition—Equipment Failure: Should there be an equipment failure, the team or scorekeepers should raise
their hand and make it known IMMEDIATELY. If the equipment cannot be repaired, the teams will answer the questions
in round-robin method.
