Cell Membrane Stations

Label this one: Diffusion
• Fill a graduated cylinder with water to the 100mL line.
• Using the dropper place 1 drop of dye on the surface of the
water.
1. Write your observations.
Observations:
2. Write this in your notes: Diffusion is when the particles
move from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration . For example, when you put food coloring
drops in water, they move from very concentrated to an area
of low concentration eventually reaching homeostasis or
dynamic equilibrium.
• Pour your water out and rinse the cylinder for the next
group.
Label this one: Concentrations
1. Copy table and write your observations for
both cylinders.
Cylinder A
Cylinder B
Low/High (Circle 1)
concentration
Low/High (Circle 1)
concentration
2. When your mom makes Kool-Aid she uses ½
cup of sugar. When you make Kook-Aid you
use 2 cups of sugar. Compare the difference
in concentration.
Label this one: Selective
Permeability
1. Write this statement: Selectively permeable
means only some molecules can pass through the
tiny spaces in a cell membrane.
• Pour beaker contents into the sifter above the
green tray. Shake the sifter into the green tray.
2. Write your observations
3. Explain how the sifter is like the selectively
permeable membrane.
• Pour green tray and sifter contents back into
beaker for the next group!!!!
Label this one:
Cell Membrane Structure
1. Using the color key and color pencils draw
and label the structure of the cell membrane

Label this one: Plasma/Cell
Membrane Transport
1. Click on Plasma Membrane to answer the following:
All substances that enter or exit the cell through
1. A. through the __________ _________
2. B. through the ___________ embedded in the membrane
3. C. processes of _____________ or ____________
2. Click on Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Oxygen and
Carbon Dioxide are similar because both_____....
3. Click on Glucose and Sodium Glucose and sodium are
similar because both____...
4. Click on Potassium and describe what happened.
5. Click on Enzyme and note what happened.

Label this one:
Active vs. Passive Transport
Watch this you tube video.
• Her explanations are legit!
1. Copy down what she says and does.
• It’s okay to pause the video just don’t take too
long!
Set it back to the beginning for the next group.

Label this one: EggSperiment
Explained!
Write this: Osmosis is the passive transport of
water.
Watch the video to get a preview on what you’ll
be doing on Monday!
Using what you learned from the video, describe
why the egg can get bigger AND why the egg can
get smaller.

Label this one: Membrane
Structure & Function
Watch the video
1. What does she compare the cell membrane
with? The cell membrane is like ______...
2. What are the parts of the cell membrane?
The cell membrane is made of _____...
3. What do they say about osmosis and active
transport? Osmosis is ________...and active
transport is _______.

Label this one:
Osmosis!
Make a table like this:
Hypertonic
Isotonic
Hypotonic
Leave 2-3 lines
for your notes
View the cool teacher sing his
awesome, visual song!
While viewing the video, make notes about isotonic,
hypertonic and hypotonic. It’s okay to pause the video
but paraphrase (shorten) to make notes quick!
