Moodle, general information and setting up a new site

Moodle, general information and setting up a new site Standard Moodle site ‐ Starting point The starting shell for each unit has some blocks and items already included. A list of teaching staff including a link to their Moodle profile or link to school page. Unit Activities. This is automatically generated and updated as activities are added to the site. e.g. Assignments, quizzes chat etc Current time at UNE. Students can use this when submitting assignments. Modules/Topics/Weeks. For most units the site should be broken into sections. All items for each section should be included together, such as module notes, audio, video, assessments, forums and slideshows. Links to UNE standard
information and help. See the next page for future plans. A school block can be added on the side with links to school information. Usually it would sit around here. Link to readings for this unit in eReserve Link to this unit in the Course and Unit Catalogue TLC templates TLC is moving away from the learning materials templates as we have known them. Standard UNE information will be provided to students from the links in the footer of all moodle sites. These will be managed centrally. You do not need to do anything to have them added or updated. General school information should generally be provided online from a web page or course site with links to these provided in your unit, most likely from a school block on the right hand side or from a link in the Unit outline block. Information that was provided in the old Unit Information template may be provided in a number of ways, such as announcements, the staff block, video, audio or text. Most of the information that was previously provided in the Assessments template should be included in the assessment activity where it falls due within the modules. The UNE Moodle Footer Like many modern websites our moodle will include a fat footer to provide navigation to UNE information. The graphic on the first page has the current footer. Below are possible additions. Resources • AskUNE • Academic Skills Office • Course and Unit Catalogue • insiders' guide @ UNE • IT Support for Students • Library | eReserve • Student Assist • Student policies What you need to know about
• Assessments, Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct • General information (unsure about name) • Learning resources (Study materials, Unit resources, Unit materials) • Referencing How do I?
• Reference my work • Use Moodle • Submit an assignment Standard UNE Information A Moodle site called Learning Online at UNE is currently being developed and will contain standard information students will need to know as well as “how to” information for using Moodle. There will be in the footer of all pages and on side blocks on some types of pages that will have links to resources within the Learning Online at UNE site. The image on the right is an example of what may appear on a side block on Chat page. Blocks will be provided on other pages, such as Assignments, Forums, Quizzes, Wikis and Books. School information Most schools have information or rules that are consistent throughout the whole school. Links to this information can be included on a side block in all the units for your school or possibly from a link/s in the Unit outline block. Possible links are: Assessment (School extension policy), contacting us (school contacts) and Referencing. This information will be controlled and updated by schools.
