This course provides students the opportunity to develop and apply entrepreneurial
skills through the creation of a school-based venture. Students will identify and
research an opportunity/issue within the school that needs to be solved and use
their new business background to create a plan and implement their idea.
Credits
The following modules are the five credits that are covered in this course. Upon
successful completion of all modules the student will receive five credits.
- ENT1010: Challenge and Opportunity – Students identify, compare and assess a
variety of venture opportunities and ideas.
- ENT1020: Elements of a Venture Plan – Students learn the elements of a venture
planning process. Select, plan and assess a venture.
- ENT2040: Create the Venture – Students create and assess a venture plan.
- FIN1010: Personal Financial Information – Students explore concepts that affect
the finances of an individual.
- MAM1020: Quality Customer Service – Students identify and describe target
markets, effective retail and service techniques.
Assessment
- This course requires mostly in class assessment. There is a lot of group work
and conversation that will be used as assessment.
- Each module will be divided as follows:
o 20% - Basic Competencies/ 21st Century Competencies
o 20% - Self Reflection
o 60% - Assignments
Student Expectations
- Take responsibility for your own learning. Ask questions and seek extra help if
you do not understand. I am here to help you succeed. If I don’t know you need
help, I can’t help you.
o This also includes seeing me for missed material if you’re absent.
- Be accountable for your own actions. If you mess up, fess up. I will have a lot
more respect for you at the end of the day if you’re honest with me.
- Respect yourself, others and property.
- Come to class prepared.
- If you are missing a class due to any pre-planned absence (ie. Field trip, family
holiday, extracurricular commitment, etc), any assignments known to be due
during that absence are to be handed in before the absence occurs.
- Makeup assignments, quizzes and tests will be done when student returns.
Absences
- Follow school policy for protocol and discipline towards absences.
Appeal
1. Student/teacher conference

3. Student/teacher/parent/administration conference
Late/Missed Assignment Policy
1) Projects are progressive and cannot be made up at the end of the year. If lack of
participation or absences are prevalent then a failing grade may result.
2) If a student misses an assignment because of an excused absence it is their
responsibility to get the assignment from the teacher and complete it.
