8. A track and field playing area is in the shape of a rectangle with semicircles at
each end. See the figure. The inside perimeter of the track is to be 1600 meters.
What should the dimensions of the rectangle be so that the area of the rectangle
is a maximum. (Let the diameter of the circle be x, and the length of the rectangle
y, then make an expression for the perimeter of the figure. Use this expression to
get y in terms of x then substitute this into an equation for the area of the
rectangle.)
Cicrumference of circle = Area of Rectangle = Perimeter of Rectangle = Add up
