Meat
• Meat is a type of common food in our diet. In fact ,it contains
a large quantity of nutrients which contributes to the perfect
functioning of our organism. An improper consumption of it
isn´t recommended, though. It is considered by dieticians
that a good frequency to consume it could be 3 or4 times a
week depending on the type of meat. White meat is healthier
than red meat. Since meat is easy to assimilate, it provides
proteins for our muscles very fast. This is the reason why
meat turns into an ally for the elderly and sportsmen. Anyway,
we must know what type of meat is the most convenient for
our health.
Types of meat
• There are two types of meat:
- Red meat has this colour because it contains a large amount of
mioglobine. The mioglobine is a protein that our muscles have. It
provides iron for our organism. These high doses of iron are very
beneficial for the correct functioning of the organism.
- White meat ,on the contrary, does not contain the same amount of
iron. Yet, it is rich in other kinds of proteins which are highly
necessary for our muscles. One of its most important characteristics
is its low level of saturated fats and cholesterol and calories. In
addition its digestion is quicker and more effective. This is why it
can be consumed more frequently than red meat.
Production of meat
• Nowadays, meat spends an average interval between 4
and 10 days since the animal is killed and brought to the
market to be commercialized. The refrigeration after the
sacrifice allows the growth of some microorganisms
capable of keeping this meat in good conditions. The
packaging of the meat with impermeable membrane to
the oxygen also allows the necessary growth of a minor
number of microorganisms during the distribution up to
the consumer.
Injurious substances in the meat
• Some hormones are used for the elaboration of
meat producing serious consequences in the
health of human beings when consuming it.
In what way does meat affect our way
of life?
• Meat and all the products of animal origin contain
cholesterol. It increases heart diseases whenever they are
consumed very frequently .These products also contain
saturated fats which are even worse than the cholesterol.
Proteins which are good for our organism become very
harmful after having consumed a large amount of meat what
causes problems in the renal function. This does not occur
with proteins of vegetable origin, though. Apart from these
biologically natural elements ,other injurious products are
added by the food factories in an artificial way to keep meat
fresh for a longer time. Generally, they are carcinogenic
substances.
Meat as junk food
• These are some of the companies that provide
meat in bad conditions for the health
We must consume a moderate
amount of meat since it can
produce cardiovascular diseases,
obesity and many problems in our
health.
