Otway Gas Project Fact Sheet October 2009 Background The Otway Gas Project, located in southern Australia, is based on two offshore gas fields, Thylacine and Geographe, discovered in 2001 by exploration joint ventures operated by Origin. The Thylacine field is located in Tasmanian waters approximately 70 kilometres south of Port Campbell in Victoria, and the Geographe field is located 15 kilometres north of Thylacine in Victorian waters. Following further appraisal of the discoveries a joint venture was formed from the participants in each of the discoveries to enable the joint development of the fields, and Woodside was appointed as the development operator. The development project was sanctioned in 2004 and production commenced in mid 2007. Raw gas is extracted using the remotely operated Thylacine platform and brought to shore via offshore and onshore pipelines to the gas processing plant located north of Port Campbell. Natural gas, condensate and liquefied petroleum is produced at the plant. The initial phase of the project included only development of the Thylacine field. Later phases of development will include the addition of gas compression facilities and development of the Geographe field. The Otway Gas Project is designed for average production of 60 petajoules of natural gas per annum (PJ/a), together with approximately 100,000 tonnes of LPG and approximately 800,000 barrels of condensate. The maximum operating capacity of the onshore plant is approximately 205 terajoules per day (equivalent to 75 PJ/a). The plant is part of a local gas industry hub that includes processing capabilities for the Minerva and Casino developments, the Iona underground gas storage facility and the junction of natural gas pipelines to Adelaide, Melbourne and Origin’s Mortlake gas fired power station which is currently being constructed approximately 70 kilometres to the north. A number of discovered and as yet undeveloped fields are also present in the region, including the Halladale and Black Watch fields owned 100% by Origin. 1 of 5 Offshore Development Location: 55km (Geographe) (Thylacine) south Campbell, Victoria Water depth: 80-100 metres Permits: Vic/L23 – Geographe T/L2 – Thylacine T/L3 – Thylacine Discovered: 2001 – Thylacine 2001 – Geographe Joint Ventures (October 2009) Woodside Energy Ltd (Operator) Origin Energy Resources Ltd Benaris International N.V.
