Thermax Inc. PRODUCT DATASHEET 3.0.2-1 Pressure Building Ambient Vaporizers for Propane Storage Tanks Thermax Pressure Building Ambient Vaporizers have been designed especially for maintaining pressure in bulk propane liquid tanks. Liquid from the bottom of the tank feeds the vaporizer which returns vapor to the top of the tank. The low pressure drop through the vaporizer ensures tank pressure is maintained during draw-off operations. Standard Features Options ASME B&PV Code, Section VIII U-Stamp Design pressures exceeding 15,000 psig Flanged, tongue & groove, butt-weld end connections Tank mounting, wall mounting and truck mounting Stainless Steel, Monel and other alloy liners Thermax Inc. Va p o r i z e rs H e a t E xch a n ger s Uses no energy and is self limiting Greater than 8 inch fin tube center to center spacing 600 psig MAWP standard ASME B31.3, CRN (all provinces), and PED category IV Module compliant Aluminum corrosion resistant construction High strength welded aluminum base frame Horizontal and vertical pressure building units Horizontal low pressure drop designs maintains full tank capacity when tank is 2/3 empty Withstands 100 mph winds and Zone 4 seismic forces Pressure Building Ambient Vaporizers These vaporizers use natural convection of air to vaporize liquefied propane. Vaporization stops as tank contents reach ambient temperature. Finned aluminum tubes absorb heat from the ambient air and transfers that heat to produce gas. In addition to our standard aluminum construction, units are available with stainless steel and other alloy liners for high pressure and other liquefied gases. www.thermaxinc.com Tel. 508-999-1231 Ther m al System s Cr yogenic Equi pm ent Vapor Withdrawal Rate for Propane Storage Tanks- SCFH/ft2 Surface Area* Tank Pressure PSIG Liquid Temperature °F -15° -10° -5° 5.5 -30°F 1.38 1.85 2.31 10 -20°F 0.45 0.9 1.38 16 -10°F - - 0.45 23 0°F - - - 31 +10°F - 40 +20°F - 45 +25°F - 50 +30°F - *Table is a guide only. The ratings cover the “Effective Surface Area” for the Thermax side arm vaporizers models listed. To increase the withdrawal rate of the tank selected for the application: 1. Determine the rate for the full tank using the typical local criteria 2. To double the tank withdrawal rate select the Thermax model having the same or more “effective surface area” TF2010HF-PBH 705 136 x 88 x 32 601 TF2012AHF-PBH 846 160 x 98 x 34 783 TF2015AHF-PBH 1,057 196 x 98 x 34 940 Example 1 TF2812AHF-PBH 1,184 160 x 70 x 52 1,075 TF2815AHF-PBH 1,480 196 x 70 x 52 1,344 TF3212AHF-PBH 1,354 162 x 80 x 52 1,180 TF3215AHF-PBH 1,692 196 x 80 x 52 1,435 TF4015AHF-PBH 2,115 196 x 95 x 52 1,785 A 1,000 gallon tank measures about 41”x16’-0” long, for a surface area of about 172 sq.ft. To double the full tank rate, select Thermax model TF088HF-PBH having an “effective surface area” of 227sq.ft. giving the combined withdrawal rate 2.3 times the full tank rate. Note: The side Arm unit is always flooded regardless of the tank level and maintains its capacity as the tank empties. * Vaporizer flow rate will be equal to the withdrawal rate of a propane storage tank for a tank of the same surface area as shown. Example 2 Using the vapor withdrawal table above select a Thermax model for: Tank Pressure =10psig, Air Temperature= +20°F, required vapor withdrawal rate for the vaporizer is 2,500 SCFH. 1. From table 10 psig tank/ 0°F air vapor withdrawal rate is 4.1 SCFH/sq.ft. 2. Divide 2,500 SCFH/4.1=610 sq.ft. Select Model TF2,010AHF-PBH which has an “effective” area of 705 sq.ft. NOTE: The Ambient Side Arm unit is always flooded regardless of tank level and maintains its capacity as the tank empties.
