Newsletter 06.06.17 - Riston C of E Primary School

Wednesday 7th June 2017
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is quite incredible that we are now in our last half term of the academic school year. This
year really does seem to be flying by quickly! My thanks must go out to all the staff who are
working incredibly hard to create a learning environment and curriculum that is led by children.
The children themselves have done an excellent job of determining the direction of the school
this year. Led by our active school council, they are truly shaping their own learning and
school environment. Please find attached to this letter the term dates for the next academic
year with the school training days highlighted.
Kind regards
Mrs S Hall
Welcome to Riston
I am pleased to announce the arrival of two new staff to Riston Primary School. Miss A
Walker will be joining us as the new class teacher for the Topcats and Mrs Seaman will be
joining us as a new teaching assistant working up in the Highflyers every morning. Mrs
Scruton will also be returning from her maternity leave at the end of this month and will be
back working in the Highflyers classroom. My thanks must go out to Mrs Hammond who has
done a wonderful job of covering the maternity vacancy and to Miss Densley who has been an
excellent teacher in Class 1/2. Although unable to commit to a full time role at Riston due to
personal circumstances, we wish Miss Densley every success in the future and I’m sure she will
remain a good friend of the school.
Miss Walker will commence work at Riston from the 19th of June alongside Miss Densley and
the rest of our teaching team to ensure a smooth transition for September. This will be an
excellent opportunity to enable Miss Walker to really get to know your children prior to her
start in September. Miss Walker is an incredibly passionate teacher who demonstrated our
school values fully at her interview. We look forward to welcoming her to the Riston family.
In our other classes Miss Groom will remain in Class 3/4 (Bluebirds); Miss Nixon will remain in
Class 5/6 (Highflyers) and our EYFS team, Mrs Silver and Mrs Preston, will remain in Robins.
Warm Weather
It’s hard to believe given the weather we are experiencing this week, but we are promised
sunshine will once again return. Please can we request that children are sent with a hat and
preferably have had sunscreen applied prior to coming to school. The once application
sunscreen is ideal for use before school. If you are unable to apply sunscreen before school,
please can you ensure your child’s bottle is labelled with their name. Please be aware that
children will have to apply their own sunscreen if it is sent to school.
ZANE Charity Day
Thank you for your support of the ZANE charity Zimbabwe day. The children looked
wonderful in the colours of the flag and participated in valuable work exploring sustainable
development around the globe and how their seemingly small actions can evoke big changes!
The visit from two of our local Hornsea Lions was an excellent way for us to launch our global
learning and we are proud to be able to contribute £67 towards their appeal.
Sponsored Fun Run
Our PTFA school fun run saw the children whizzing round at incredible speeds with no chance
of the soaring temperatures slowing them down! The event raised a staggering £523: 25% of
the money raised will be donated to Cancer Research with the remaining funds supporting our
PTFA provision for educational visits. Thank you to all the PTFA supporters who planned this
event and set out the equipment enabling this event to happen and well done to all the children
for their incredible stamina and determination on the day. It most certainly was a fun run!
A very busy Mrs Hammond!
Mrs Hammond is not only a lunchtime supervisor and teaching assistant at Riston she is also a
huge supporter of the village and will be running the following events that I am sure you will
want to attend. On Thursday the 15th of June (3.15 – 5pm in the village hall) Mrs Hammond will
be holding a cupcake and bake sale to raise money to support the Alzheimer’s Society. In
addition on Saturday the 24th of June there will be a Jumble sale in the village hall (10.30 –
12.30) with all proceeds being donated to the Riston playing field funds. If you would like to
donate any baking or would like further information please contact Mrs Hammond on 563204.
