The United American Division of Liberty National Life Insurance Company’s
Part A Deductible Waiver for Medicare Supplement Policyholders
The United American Division of Liberty National Life
Insurance Company has received an opinion from the
Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services, regarding our intended
use of a preferred hospital network as part of our
Medicare Supplement health insurance policy. We are
currently the only Medicare Supplement provider in
the country to receive such an opinion regarding the
waiver of the Medicare Part A Deductible.
Setting the standard
Since Medicare was enacted, the United American
Division of Liberty National Life Insurance has
been committed to the Senior market.
Keeping customers’ costs down — whether
they are for healthcare services or the insurance
premiums to cover healthcare expenses — is vital
to helping us remain in business and helps ensure
our customers stay satisfied.
How it works
• W
e contract with one or more preferred
hospital networks to include its Medicare
Supplement customers in the hospital network.
• E ach time a qualified* Medicare Supplement
policyholder is hospitalized during a benefit
period in a participating hospital, all or part
of the insured’s Part A hospital deductible
is waived.
What does this mean to customers?
Continued freedom of choice & policyholder savings!
All standardized Medicare Supplement plans,
except Plan A (the basic or core plan), cover the
Part A deductible, which is [$1,068] in [2009].
We normally pays this deductible as an eligible
benefit of the Medicare Supplement policy.
With the Part A Deductible Waiver, the hospital
waives all or part of this deductible. The Company
saves by not having to pay this deductible to
the provider and passes along a portion of that
savings to its policyholders.
What it means to customers
• O
ur Medicare Supplement customers can
continue to see the doctors and providers of
their choice.
• We do not require them to go to a designated
facility for hospitalization. Their policy
continues to pay all eligible expenses due
under their policy.
• However, policyholders who choose to
go to a participating hospital provider and
incur a Part A deductible participate in
the savings.
• After discharge from the hospital, the insured
receives a credit that is used to help pay their
next premium payment.
• The credit is $100 and represents the
policyholder’s savings.
The Part A Deductible
Waiver preserves our
customers’ freedom of
choice and provides
immediate savings to those
who choose one of the
network hospitals.
Savings gained by both
the customer and the
United American Division of Liberty National
Life Insurance Company can positively impact
future Medicare Supplement premiums not only
for policyholders who select network hospitals
(without increasing costs for those who do not),
but for all policyholders.

*This program does not apply to policyholders who purchased
ProCare Plan A, since the Part A deductible is not covered on
the core plan.
