What if I have multiple classes that use clickers?

Students: All about clickers
What’s a clicker for?
The main reason for using clickers is to help you to do better in this class. Everybody knows that you learn more when you actively
participate in your own learning. Using clickers is a way for you to take an active role in this class instead of just sitting there
listening to lectures. So, after your instructor has lectured for several minutes, he/she will stop and ask you a question. Everybody
gets to answer, instead of just that one student who always answers the teacher’s questions. Then, your instructor will display a
graph to show how the class answered as a whole. This should give you a pretty good
idea how you’re doing, and what you need to study, instead of finding out after the
mid-term when it’s too late to do anything about it.
How do I know if my clicker is working?
Pay attention to the round light on your clicker for feedback.




A “green” light, that means your answer was successfully received.
A “red” or “orange” light means your answer was NOT received.
If your clicker light blinks orange while the question session is
open you need to reset the channel.
If the clicker light is very faint or weak and you cannot reset the
channel, you may need to change the batteries. Get new batteries
from the location where you picked up your clicker.
How do I set the channel?
Every clicker is set to a specific channel. The classroom computer will ignore every channel, except the right
one. So, set your clicker to channel that your instructor is using.
1.
Press and release the “GO” button.
2.
While the light is flashing (red/green) enter the 2 digit channel code.
3.
Press and release the “GO” button again.
4.
At this time, the light should stay green for a few seconds. Green means you successfully changed the
channel. If the light stays red for several seconds that means it didn’t work, so try it again. Make sure you
type the channel your instructor is using or your clicker won’t work in class.
What if I have multiple classes that use clickers?
1.
Check out and register one clicker for all classes that use a clicker, rather than use several different
clickers. When you come to pick up a clicker tell us that you have more than one class that
requires you to have a clicker. If you find out later that you need a clicker for another class bring
your first clicker to us in the basement of CSS and we will register it for the additional class.
2.
Don’t forget to change the channel at the beginning of each class period.
What happens if my clicker gets lost, broken or stolen?
If you damage or lose your clicker you’ll have to pay $32.00 to purchase another clicker so that you can
continue to participate in this class. Take good care of your clicker and bring it with you to class everyday. If
something happens to your clicker let your instructor know right away because your participation in class
using clickers is the key to doing well in this course. If you drop the course, please return your clicker.
Otherwise, you will be charged $32.00 replacement cost.
