Help your students learn more about the agricultural world around them by booking a free Farm 2 Table field trip at the Fairgrounds in Hamburg Details inside... 2017-2018 About Farm 2 Table Programs Farm 2 Table is an award winning agricultural education field trip designed for students grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The program is presented by the Erie County Agricultural Society, as their continuing commitment to agricultural education in Western New York. Field trips are offered in the new Agriculture Discovery Center, the Agricultural Society’s state of the art agricultural education facility. Just like the agricultural world around us, the Farm 2 Table field trips have monthly themes based upon the agricultural events of the season. Each field trip is designed to teach students about the importance of agriculture in their lives and engage their natural curiosity through multi-modal approaches. All lessons are age specific and aligned with Common Core Mathematics and English Language Arts standards. About the Agriculture Discovery Center Field trips are available for Kindergarten through 5th Grade and are geared appropriately to age group and educational level. October—New York State of Harvest The leaves are falling, the days are getting colder and pumpkins, apples and corn are abundant. October is harvest time in New York State! Learning stations on apples, pumpkins, and corn will teach students all about these New York crops and what makes them special and important to our community. October 11th & 16th November—Thanksgiving Favorites Thanksgiving is a holiday about food, and food comes from the farm of course! Students on the November field trip will learn about where holiday staples come from, all about a variety of veggies, and finally a little history about thanksgiving food and culture. October 30th, 31st & November 2nd, 6th, 8th & 9th The entire field trip takes place in our December—Trees! Trees! Trees! climate controlled state of the art agricultural education facility opened in Wood you believe the things we get from trees? August of 2014. Trees are all around us—in our foods, our homes, and classrooms! Learning stations on evergreens, tree products and forest ecology will help students understand the forest around us. February—The Sweet Side of Agriculture Did you know that it takes 40 gallons of maple sap to make one gallon of maple syrup? Learning stations on maple syrup, honey, and other plant based sweeteners are sure to intrigue and excite students! February 7th– 9th & 12th– 16th March—Pizza Starts on the Farm Length & Size of Group Pizza is a perfect analogy to agriculture! Each ingredient goes through processes in order to create that delicious pie. Students will learn about the local farming contributions to pizza, the steps from farm to the store, and how those ingredients meet to make a culinary delight. Each field trip begins at 10:00am and concludes at 12:20pm (facility for lunch available upon request/availability). We kindly ask that you do not schedule a group larger than 150 students. March 5th– 8th & 12th– 16th *March trip limited to Grades 3 –5 * April—New Friends on the Farm A variety of different farm animals come to the Fairgrounds during the April Farm 2 Table field trip! Students will get to interact with dairy calves, chicks, and goats and learn all about what makes them special, what they are used for on the farm, and plenty of fun facts along the way. Reservations Classroom reservations are currently being accepted on a first come, first served basis. Farm 2 Table can only accommodate 150 students per day. Students will learn all about seeds and germination, parts of a plant, and the importance of flowers on this colorful and hands on field trip. May 16th & 21st-24th Farm 2 Table Field trips are a completely free program open to all kindergarten through grade 5 classrooms in Western New York. This program is developed, produced, and funded by the Erie County Agricultural Society. Additionally, the Erie County Agricultural Society will help subsidize busing costs, by paying $100 per busload of students. Cancellation Policy June—Delightful Dairy! Did you know that New York ranks 4th in the nation for milk production? Celebrate dairy month by engaging your students dairy curiosity with three fun learning stations on cows, the importance of dairy in our diets, and how delicious dairy products are made. June 6th, 7th & 11th– 13th Any changes must be called in no later that 24 hours prior to your visit.
