Importing from Eudora to Thunderbird

Importing from Eudora to Thunderbird
When you first start up Thunderbird following installation it will detect any existing
mail clients and will ask if you want to import your mail from them. You should answer
No to this, and wait to import your mail later.
If you have more than one Eudora on your PC (for example, your personal email and a
functional mailbox) you can carry out the following procedure for each Eudora in
succession. Thunderbird should be smart enough to pick up each separate Eudora.
Before you import your mailboxes from Eudora you should carry out a thorough
house-keeping exercise. Compact your Eudora mailboxes once you have deleted
unwanted messages.
The following procedure will import your Eudora mail into your Local Folders. You can
move messages up onto the server into IMAP folders after the importation. You should
only upload messages to IMAP folders if you are still working on them.

Choose Import from
Thunderbird’s Tools
menu. Select Mail and
click Next
Choose Eudora and click
Next
The import process is quick
to start with but gets
slower the more it has to
import. If you have any
large Eudora mailboxes
(more than 1000 messages)
it will be very slow.
