Fire Blanket
• Can be used on people on fire, or fires
where it is closer to the fire blanket
than the fire extinguisher
1. Tell the person on fire to stop-drop-&-roll
2. Call to the closest person to grab the fire
blanket
3. Pat the fire out
4. Alert the teacher
Emergency Water & Gas Shut Off
• Gas needs to be
turned of during fire
alarm. Leave work
station safe.
Off: the handle is
perpendicular (90
degree angle) to the
main line
On: the handle is parallel
to the main line
Safety Shower
• If the affected area can be
placed under the sink, then
rinse it, otherwise… the
shower!!
1. Remove all clothing
2. Rinse for 15 min
Eye Wash Station
1. Avoid rubbing your eyes
2. Partner takes victim to the
eye wash station
3. Push handle back and
victim rinses eyes
4. Partner removes gloves
and washes hands
5. Partner holds victims eyes
open
6. Victim rolls eyes for 15 min
Broken Glass Disposal
•
Don’t pick it up with your
bare hands!!
1. Get broom and dust pan
2. Sweep up as much as you
can
3. Dispose of in the Broken
Glass Disposal container
4. Get moist paper towel and
wipe up shards
Fire Extinguisher
•
Never use on people!
1. Pull pin
2. Point at base of fire - what
is burning
3. Compress handle
4. Call to someone to pull the
fire alarm
Spill Kit
•
Vomit: clean with Petro Lock container
(orange)
•
Blood: clean with Green Z container (green)
•
Acid spills: clean with Acid Lock container (red)
•
Base spills: clean with Alky Lock container (brown)

Sprinkle the containers contents (white powder) and let it
absorb
Sweep up and throw in garbage
Spill Pads
•
Unknown spills are costly!! That’s why we
clean up all our spills
1. Place spill pad on spill and let absorb
2. Toss spill pad into garbage
Fire Alarm
• None located in room 215
• Located in rooms 213 and 217, and
outside boys bathroom and weight room
Emergency Exit
1. Exit out either door to hall
2. Last person turns off lights and shuts door
3. Go down the stairs
4. Walk towards gym
5. Turn left before gym and exit out doors
6. Walk down walkway
7. Go to bus ramp
8. Line up at far right
9. Gather for attendance
10. Wait quietly until we are invited back in
First Aid Attendants
•
In the Career Center (which is located
across from the office)

Pre-lab Procedures

Read the lab ahead of time
Ask any clarifying questions
No open toed shoes
Tie back long hair
Remove loose or baggy clothing
Remove jewelry
No gum, food, or beverages in lab
Enter lab and put on gloves, apron,
goggles and wait for instructions
Cleanup Procedures

Pour dissecting juices down the drain
Dispose of specimen in the specimen disposal
container
3. Place all dissecting tools on your dissecting tray
4. Spray tray with cleaner
5. Turn on hot water and adjust pressure
6. Place tray under water and rinse to remove soap –don’t
scrub or dry tools!!
7. Put tools back wet in dissecting cabinet
8. Place paper towel in tray to dry
9. Spray table and wipe with sponge
10. Rinse small sinks at end of station and rinse sponge
11. Remove dissecting gear
More Cleanup Procedures…
1. When finished a chemical procedure,
dispose of excess chemicals and products
in the designated waste container
2. Wash all glassware using a brush and
soap solution
3. Return safety equipment
4. Wash your hands
