PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To assist the Works Coordinator in the effective and efficient delivery of maintenance associated with Council’s fleet of vehicles, mobile plant and fixed plant and equipment. At times this role may also involve tasks within other work teams and it is expected that the incumbent will undertake duties, as required. B. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Accountability Undertake maintenance associated with Council’s fleet of vehicles, mobile plant and fixed plant and equipment to ensure good working order so that maximum utilisation of plant is achieved and without general supervision Measures Diagnose faults and carry out remedial treatment/repairs utilising appropriate work practices, techniques, tools and equipment Ensure parts are available to complete servicing and maintenance requirements in an efficient and effective manner Ensure work is carried out in a safe environment using safe work practices Compliance with workplace instructions Compliance with standards Compliance with standard operating procedures Provide assurance of the quality of work Provide a maintenance service for all plant and equipment using most cost effective means Ensure a focus on customer service whilst carrying out works Regular plant maintenance and repairs promptly undertaken Assist with the evaluation and road testing of plant and equipment when requested Maintain the mechanic workshop in a clean and safe condition Log books and plant checks correctly completed Plant used as per manufacturer’s instructions and Council’s Safe Operating Procedures Source parts as required Attend offsite vehicle/plant breakdowns as and when required (on occasions this may be outside normal working hours) Treat all internal and external customers courteously and with respect Maintain and promote a professional image to all POSITION DESCRIPTION Accountability Measures contacts and ensure customers are provided with necessary, relevant, timely and accurate information at all times Ensure action requests are assessed, relevant stakeholder liaison is undertaken and works completed within timeframes with a focus on customer service Participate and contribute positively as a team member to achieve the agreed work plans and team objectives Respond in a timely manner to action requests and other stakeholder enquiries and provide appropriate advice, assistance and information related to the position and areas of responsibility Ensure public request procedures are followed and consistent with Council policy Contribute positively to team work plans Positive assistance to team members to successfully achieve work plans and tasks within time frames Adopt changes in operating practices to achieve team objectives and identified efficiencies Support the Coordinator to identify and implement workplace improvements Work is completed in accordance with plan, budget and schedule Provide advice to the Coordinator in relation to relevant team matters when required Provide advice regarding operational works associated with Council’s plant assets and relevant team matters when required Advice provided to Coordinator as requested Ensure all plant is operated in the correct manner, maintenance is undertaken and log books, where requested are corrected completed Regular maintenance and plant repairs undertaken where possible, in accordance with requirements and/or instructions, or as advised by Coordinator Plant and vehicles are maintained in a neat and tidy condition Log books are correctly completed Plant used as per manufacturer’s instructions and Council’s Safe Operating Procedures Support the Coordinator identify and implement workplace improvements within the Plant Maintenance Team Evidence of improvements identified Undertake training and development to ensure high standard of service delivery Training to support ongoing service requirements is successfully undertaken Skills development ensures ability to perform all duties required of the team 2 of 6 Mechanic/Diesel Fitter –Vacant POSITION DESCRIPTION Accountability Participate in proactive inspection and maintenance systems for Council’s plant assets Measures Participate in proactive inspection and maintenance systems Evidence of documented proactive inspections as applicable to the role Comply with Health and Safety requirements & Council policies Other duties that are within the limits of skill, competence and training Comply with all Health and Safety legislation Ensure Health and Safety information is provided to the broader community as required While at work, a worker must; take reasonable care for his or her own health and safety; and take reasonable care that his or her acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons; and comply, so far as the worker is reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction that is given by the person conducting the business or undertaking to allow the person to comply with this Act: and cooperate with any reasonable policy or procedure of the person conducting the business or undertaking relating to health or safety at the workplace that has been notified to workers. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reporting relationships The position reports to the Works Coordinator however daily direction will be provided by the Workshop Supervisor. The position of Mechanic/Diesel Fitter is not responsible for the supervision of any other position however may provide assistance to the apprentice mechanic. A professional image of the Council must be projected in all dealings and at all times. The position involves significant liaison across all areas and levels of the organisation. The incumbent will need to utilise excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy to ensure positive and productive relationships are established and maintained.
