Writing a Feature Article on a Professional Baseball Player
There are two ways you can complete this task in order to earn third base and reward.
Choose a player from any league (Major, Minor, Women’s, Negro).
1. You may write your own feature article after researching the career of a professional
baseball player.
2. You may use the form provided on the teacher websites on the Potter Gray website and
fill in the blanks with the information you have researched.
Either way you choose you will need to tell as much as you can about the player’s life and
career as a professional athlete. You will need to tell when and where the player was born and
any information about his/her childhood as you can. Include facts such as the team’s name and
where the team played (city), when he/she played, what league he/she played in and what
position he/she played. You may find out if the player went to college or not, and if he/she
played while in school. You may find out if the player got married and had children. Include
facts about how good the player was such as hits, RBI (runs batted in) and home runs and how
many years he/she played professional baseball.
Please print two copies of the completed feature article to send in to school by March 31.
Be sure you have a title and your name on it as the author. Be sure to use correct grammar,
spelling, and punctuation and complete sentences in your piece. Most of all, learn about a person
who has helped make the game of baseball America’s pastime, and tell what you learned in
detail.
