Registration Form - West Midlands Academic Health Science Network

ABHI MedTech Trade
Mission to Texas, USA
Registration Form
14 to 21 May 2016
ABHI MedTech Trade Mission to Texas
The Mission
ABHI, with support from UKTI, is running a Medical Technology Trade Mission to Texas, taking in Austin, San
Antonio and Houston from 14 to 21 May 2016.
The purpose for the mission is to unlock the significant opportunity in Texas and create demand for UK products.
The state has been selected as a soft landing for companies entering and growing operations in the USA and
from where companies can springboard to other US states.
The missions objectives are to help UK companies reduce the time to profit and to enhance growth and return on
investment in the USA.
ABHI is working closely with leading UK Academic Health Science Networks, UKTI and FCO to select a strong UK
delegation and deliver an unrivalled programme of activity in Texas. This market visit will be the first of several
future missions to the State and comes following extensive research into the opportunity and collaborations
taking place there.
Healthcare in Texas is a thriving sector and the state is focusing and prioritising the growth of health and life
sciences for a population of over 27 million. Texas has considerable scale and expertise; it is one of the largest
markets for medical equipment and healthcare products in the USA and the 7th largest in the world on its own.
Texas has huge ambition to become a world leader in health and life sciences over the coming years and spends
over $150bn on healthcare every year, a figure set to increase significantly.
The mission in May will provide an opportunity for UK companies who are ready to enter the market, or already
active in the USA to engage with senior health system leaders, buyers, distributors, key clinicians and support
organisations. Introductions will be made with some of the world’s leading hospital systems, US military hospital
systems, investor and academic communities as well as collaborative technology transfer groups and
professional supporting organisations.
The mission will target senior leaders across many of the main hospital systems and offer unprecedented access
to key decision makers and KOLs.
Texas has considerable strength in a number of therapeutic areas. It also has the highest number of hospitals of
any US state. Areas of strength have been identified, but not limited to, cardiology, oncology, radiology, neurology,
anaesthesiology, orthopaedics, trauma and emergency care, paediatrics, wound care, digital health, diabetes,
regenerative medicine and infectious diseases.
To apply to join the mission, please complete and return this registration form to Sarah Izon (details below). The
closing date for registrations is Friday 18 March 2016. After this time, regrettably, we will be unable to accept
companies onto the mission.
It is very important that we ensure every company on the mission achieves their objectives and gains traction;
therefore, the trip will be highly targeted and focused on identified need in the state. Given this, and due to the
high demand for places, it will be necessary to run a selection process for companies applying to join the trip.
Therefore, once ABHI has reviewed your completed registration form, we will write back to you either asking you
to go on and complete a mission booking form, or suggesting that you join us on a future mission, which may be
more suitable and focused to your company profile and product set.
Please note that should we advise you join a future mission, that this is in no way a negative reflection of your
products or business, only that we believe you will benefit more from some of the planned trips in the future.
If you have any questions about the visit or the process please contact Sarah Izon or Paul Benton (details below)
and we will be happy to talk to you further.
The cost
A mission fee of £1500+VAT is applicable to each company signing up to participate. This fee is used to help pay
for activity in market and helps cover the management and administration of the visit.

Application process
To ensure companies get the most from the visit, ABHI will operate a selection process. There are 20 company
places available for this first mission.
We are looking for UK companies who are able to sell in the US who are ‘market ready’, or those who are already
selling in the US. We are looking for companies with innovative products that match the healthcare
needs/strengths in the state (as listed in the introduction). This does not mean that consideration will not be
given to companies from other therapeutic areas, as demand exists across the whole spectrum of medtech and
healthcare, only that we will, on this occasion, prioritise those who best match the need identified.
Companies will then be required to complete a Mission Booking Form and pay the mission fee, at which point
ABHI will confirm your place on the visit.
The mission team
The team supporting the mission will include:
Peter Ellingworth, CEO, ABHI
Philip Kennedy, Chairman, ABHI
Paul Benton, Director, International ABHI
Sarah Izon, International, ABHI
Kevin Wilson, Sector Specialist, UKTI
Karen Bell, Consul General, Houston
Melissa Steinmetz, Vice Consul, Houston
