no to austerity - The Green Party

NO TO AUSTERITY
CUT CARBON, CREATE JOBS!
THE GREEN PARTY HAS AN ALTERNATIVE
The Green Party opposes the Coalition
Government’s ‘austerity programme’ of £81
billion of cuts.
They hit the most vulnerable people hardest,
including women, pensioners, the unemployed,
the low paid, disabled people and carers.
In the North West, thousands of jobs are being lost, as well as vital public
services including day care centres, youth services, libraries and public
transport.
WE WOULD:
 Bring in our ‘Green New Deal’ to create a million jobs in
renewable energy, insulation, social housing, public transport
and waste management.
 Protect public services from privatisation and damaging cuts.
 End pensioner poverty by introducing a weekly Citizen’s
Pension of £170 for a single person, and £300 for a couple.
 Increase the minimum wage to a living wage.
 Fund our policies through higher and fairer taxation – wealthy
corporations and individuals should pay more to help create a
more equal society.

CUTS WHERE THEY’RE NEEDED
- NOT WHERE THEY HURT
Caroline Lucas, Green Party Leader and
the UK’s first Green MP, says:
“Spending cuts shouldn't fall on libraries,
social care and jobs. We should be cutting
tax avoidance and bankers’ bonuses, and
saving billions by scrapping damaging
Government projects, such as the Trident
nuclear weapons system and the road building programme.”
“The Coalition Government really doesn't 'get it'. They could be
addressing both the economic and the environmental crises at the
same time if they adopted the kind of policies that we've set out in
our 'Green New Deal'. One of the best ways of sorting out the
economy would be a huge investment in energy efficiency and
renewable energy. It would create jobs, reduce fuel poverty, and
get our CO2 emissions down."
