Forest School
This term class 2 children are outside doing
forest schools every Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday mornings, the children may be outside
in their family groups across school. As the
children will be out every Tuesday afternoon
they will need a set of clothes that you don’t
mind them getting muddy and a pair of wellies.
I will send the children home in these every
week to be washed.
P.E. KIT…
This term the children are doing PE on
Thursdays as usual but also Wednesday with
Skegness Academy. Last year we had a few
children who didn’t have their P.E. kits every
week and so were unable to take part. Children
need to have their P.E. kits in school ALL
WEEK. The children require an indoor and
outdoor kit for these lessons. The items required
include: for indoor use: plimsolls/trainers, tshirt, shorts and for outside: jogging bottoms
and a jumper in addition to the indoor kit.
Just a reminder…
Please ensure that all personal property is
clearly labelled with your child’s name, this
includes P.E. Kit.
Reading
Thank you to all the parents that listen to their
children read during the week. Please continue
to listen to your child and jot down any
comments or questions in their reading diary.
The children will be receiving rewards for
reading at home.

Class Teacher – Mrs Smith
Teaching Assistant – Mrs Leverton
Welcome back…
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas
holiday and Santa brought the children what
they wanted. We have a fantastic term ahead
of us with lots of exciting learning
opportunities. Let’s hope that the weather
stays warm as we are outside a lot this term.
HOMEWORK…
Homework is still the maths booklet for the
year 2’s which has been assessed for their
level for the to complete at home a page a
week which I will mark and any mistakes
will be talked through for them to correct.
The year 1’s will be given a maths sheet to
complete and return. As phonics has
changed this year to read, write, inc the
phonics and spellings homework will be
given by your child’s read, write, inc
teacher. Year 1 children also have words to
practice for their assessment in June.
Our Topic this term is…
Light and Dark
Forest School – We are doing forest school
every Tuesday afternoon this term and the
children will be using the skills they learn
each week to make bread, create dens and
link to out topic of light and dark in search
for nocturnal animal’s dens and footprints.
RE – We are learning about Christianity
through reading bible stories and learning
about lent and why it is a special time of
year for Christians.
Maths – We will be starting this term by
consolidating our number recognition and
number facts. When we have a solid base of
numbers we will move on to the four
operations (+, -, x, ÷)shapes and time. We
will be focussing on problem solving and
explaining our mathematical thinking
behind our findings. We will be using our
mathematical skills throughout our topic
learning also. The year 2 will also be having
some time to practice maths SATs
questions.
Science – Throughout this term we will
focus on light and dark. As we are out every
Tuesday doing forest school, we will be
using the outside area to search for traces of
nocturnal animals and their habitats. We will
be looking at light and dark and our eyes
how they change.
History – This term we are learning about
the great fire of London. The children are
very interested in this and will be becoming
newspaper reporters to create an article
about the fire. Look out for our display near
the hall.
ICT – We are beginning to look at ICT
away form just computers. The children are
using the ipad to develop their computer
skills as well as their literacy and numeracy
skills through apps. The children will be
learning how to use the ipad as well basic
skills on a computer word program.
PSHE – This term we are focusing on the
school topic of ‘risk taking’ and discussing
how this is good to understand the
difference between silly risks and safe risks.
We will be role playing scenarios that show
good and bad risks. We hope the children
can recognise what to do differently in those
situations.
Music – We will be learning new songs this
term and playing music to support them.
They may be songs the children have never
heard and they may be nursery rhymes that
we can make suitable music for.
PE – Lessons will be on a Wednesday and
Thursday. We will be focusing on dance and
gymnastics. The children will need their kit
all week in case PE needs to be moved to a
different day.
