Leading a Team: One-day Workshop
Target Audience
This workshop is designed for all those people who have responsibility for leading a
team or who aspire to lead a team, whether large or small. It provides basic guidance
for those new to the task and will also refresh the thinking of those who already lead
teams.
Ideally, group size would be limited to 12 participants. This number allows the course
tutor to devote sufficient time to giving participants individual feedback throughout the
day.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:






Recognise the importance of vision and strategy in leading teams
Understand different leadership styles and identify their own style
Recognise the importance to a team of clearly defined goals
Use communication effectively within a team and understand the role of
perception in an individual’s relationship to a team
Apply a variety of motivational techniques
Support and develop members of a team as individuals.
Approach
This one-day workshop combines theory and tutor-led discussion with exercises
designed to make participants more aware of their own leadership styles. It suggests
ways in which those styles can be improved and exploited to improve the individual’s
performance as a team leader, and ultimately to improve the team’s overall
performance.
