2017 Football Handbook

WELCOME TO RANGITOTO!!
Greetings, and welcome to Rangitoto College Football for
2017!
To all year 9 students and parents we hope your first year with
us is an enjoyable one. To all of our returning students and
families we look forward to building on a great year in 2016.
Our football programme caters to players of all levels and
aspirations. If it’s your dream to become an All White or
Football Fern, we want to help you achieve that goal. If you
just want to play, have fun and make some new friends in a
school team, we’re excited about that too!
We pride ourselves on competing alongside the best
footballing schools in Auckland in the highest levels of school
football. We are very proud of our 1st XI Girls who continually
achieve top results nationally, placing 5th in the 2016
Nationals. Our first 1st XI Boys won the Malcolm Cowie
Tournament and were semi finalists in the Auckland knock out
cup in 2016.
This handbook will serve as a guide to football at Rangitoto
and will provide you with all the information you need. We
encourage you to go through the handbook along with your
child before the start of the season.
If you have any questions about our programme please feel
free to email us.

 Acknowledge the other team and referee at the end of the game.

 Not play if I am ill or injured and I will make sure I communicate full details of
any illness, injury or recovery programme to my coach/manager.
 Stay on the sideline with the other substitutes when I am not on the field;
watch the game at all times and be prepared to play as soon as required
by the coach.
 Wear the correct uniform to every game - I won’t be allowed on the field
unless I am in the correct uniform.
 Manage my time and be at training and games on time as defined by the
coach.
 Manage my social life (i.e. no late night before game day) so that it does not
affect my ability to play.
 Not do anything that could bring my team or school into disrepute by my
actions - on or off the field.
 Talk to someone I trust, for example my parents, coach, manager, teacher or
grade convenor if I have a football related issue—no matter how small.
Above all else - I will play to my potential.
PLAYER CONDUCT

 I take on the responsibility of leadership and will always act in the best
interests of my team and the school..
 I will lead by example - on and off the field.
 I will act fairly, honestly and with respect in my dealings with other teams,
referees, the coach, manager and members of my team.
 I take responsibility for representing my team in communicating with the coach
and referee and understand that I will be called upon to speak publicly on
behalf of the team.
 I will raise any issues the team may be having with the coach, grade convenor
and/or the relevant TIC Football as soon as they occur.
As a member of the First XI:
 I know that my place in this team is a privilege I have earned, not a right.
 I understand that as a team we are training and playing to win and I may not
get to play every game; I accept that this is the coach’s decision.
 I understand that I am considered a role model and leader at school and will
act accordingly both on and off the field.
 I will play to the best of my ability at all times; always endeavouring to excel at
training sessions as well as in the games.
 I will always act in the best interests of the team - no exceptions.
 Should there be an after-match function, I understand that my attendance is

chance for our talented footballers to have specialized skill training
sessions. The development of techniques which will enhance
game play within the Rangitoto Football style. Strength and
conditioning helps the student achieve their goal of becoming a
better athletic as well as a more rounded footballer
Refereeing
There is a NFF Level 1 referee course on Sunday 26th February.
Refereeing is a great way to continue your enjoyment of the game.
If you are passionate about football then refereeing offers a
different challenge and gives you the best seat in the house. It’s
also a great way to keep fit, utilise and develop your people skills
and pursue a footballing path that allows for an individual training
schedule. You can maintain your current links within the game,
forge new friendships and give back to the game in a direct and
meaningful way. Refereeing can also open up travel opportunities
both within New Zealand and to the rest of the world.
