What is Blackbaud Outcomes?
Blackbaud Outcomes is the new technology that aims to connect, empower, and accelerate purposeful
philanthropy by enabling the capture and tracking of meaningful results and achievements between
grantmakers (funders) and grantees (NPOs).
It does this in several ways:





It allows funders and grantees to collaborate on intended outcomes and measurements.
It lets funders select from a Taxonomy of Measures or enter their own.
It communicates real-time progress to the funder through updates entered by the grantee on the
Blackbaud Outcomes site and GIFTS Online.
It helps funders rollup and analyze the impact of their programs.
It drives decision making through regular progress updates.
Where is Outcomes?
Depending on your role, Blackbaud Outcomes is accessed in two different ways:
Funders will see new outcomes features enabled in GIFTS Online through Requests, Dashboards, and Online
Applications.
Grantees will manage their applications, requirements, and outcome measures through the Blackbaud
Outcomes site which will replace the My Account pages for grantees who have submitted online applications
before.
Working with Outcomes in GIFTS Online
Outcomes functionality can be accessed via GIFTS Online through three different areas:
Outcomes in Online Applications
In order to implement outcomes measurements in GIFTS Online they must be added to application forms
through the Online Applications Forms Manager. This will give applicants a series of outcomes measurements
to choose from when applying for a grant. Applications with outcomes data can also be viewed through the
Pending Applications page as a new column.
Enabling Outcomes on Existing Applications
The first step in using Blackbaud Outcomes is to enable an existing application form to use outcomes
functionality. This is done in the Forms Manager for Online Applications.
When editing an inactive application form, you will see a new Outcomes option in the Settings menu. This will
open the Outcomes panel on the right and allow you to check the Enable Outcomes box.

Clicking on the Launch Outcomes button will then open the Outcomes Configuration form.
On the configuration form, you will be able to do the following:

Setup your desired frequency for progress updates.

Select measures from the standard list or create your own measures.

Choose the minimum number measures are required for the applicant to select.
Once these are configured, you can complete edits to the rest of the application form as needed and activate it
for use by applicants.
Applying for a Grant with Outcomes Measurements
NOTE: First time applicants will first be taken to the Blackbaud Accounts page and be required to Sign Up for a
free Blackbaud account or login with their Google credentials. Applicants with an existing account on a funder’s
Online Applications site can create a Blackbaud account using the same email address in order to carry over
their existing applications and requirements to the new site.
When applicants access the Outcomes enabled form, there will be an Edit Outcomes tab.

When the Edit Outcomes button is clicked, the Edit Outcomes form will open for the applicant to fill out.
The applicant will need to do the following:

Enter the Project End Date.
Note the number of measures required and then click Add a measurement.
For each measurement selected from the drop-down menu a goal value must be added.
Optionally, the applicant can also select the populations served by the project.
Click Save and Close to finish completing the application and submit it.

Outcomes During Applications Retrieval
The only difference when retrieving application will be a new Outcomes column on the Pending Applications
page.
Applications that are Outcomes enabled will have a View link on the Outcomes column.
Applications with N/A in the column are not outcomes enabled.
Clicking the View link will display the
project end date, update frequency,
measurement(s) selected by the grantee,
their goal number and any population
values selected.
As normal, applications must first be
selected and duplicate checked before
being considered through Online
Applications.

Outcomes in Requests Edit Forms
Outcomes data can also be accessed through the Request edit form using the new Outcomes section on the
edit form.
Simply click the View Now link to see the Updates Schedule, Measurements, and Populations data for the
Request.

Outcomes Dashboard Reports
Two Outcomes related reports are available in the new Outcomes Progress Updates dashboard part available
in GIFTS Online.
Click View Outcomes Progress Updates to find individual dashboards for each individual grant with
Outcomes data. After a grantee has submitted Progress Updates, the funder can select their grant from this list
to view the data. This dashboard shows the grantee’s progress toward the measurable goals that they
committed to on their application.

Click View Outcomes Summary Dashboard instead to view a summary of progress on all outcomes
measurements. This data is aggregated across all of a funder’s grantees once per day, so that the funder can
view their total progress as an organization.
Using the Blackbaud Outcomes Site

Online Applications site can create a Blackbaud account using the same email address in order to carry over
their existing applications and requirements to the new site.
After submitting an Outcomes enabled application, applicants will be taken to the new Blackbaud Outcomes
website.

This is the site where a grant applicant can track and manage their applications.
Applicants can use this site to view all of their applications, requirements, and Outcomes progress updates.
This includes every funder that they work with who is using Blackbaud Outcomes, all in one place and with a
single login.
The Blackbaud Outcomes site is composed of the following three tabs: Home, Applications, and Requirements.

The Home Page
The Home page displays all your active grants that have a progress update due.
Progress Updates for the current update period will be due by the end of the following month.
Click on one of your grant names to edit and submit a Progress Update.

The Applications Page
The Applications page consists of two sub-tabs: In Progress Applications and Completed Applications.
In Progress Applications
Applications listed on the In Progress tab were saved but not submitted yet.
To continue working on an application, simply click on its title.
Completed Applications
Completed applications have been submitted for review by the funder.
Clicking on the title here will display details of the application in read-only view.

The Requirements Page
This page displays any required reports which have been sent to the applicant/grantee from a funder or
grantmaker. It is split into three sub-tabs for New Requirements, In Progress Requirements, and Completed
Requirements.
For New and In Progress Requirements, clicking the Form Name will open the form for entry.
For Completed Requirements, clicking the Form Name will display the details of the submitted form in readonly view.
